Well hopefully parents aren't publicly shaming their transgender kids. There is a high suicide rate there and shaming them will dramatically increase the chances of suicide.
I agree no one should be shamed. Some parents may feel deeply hurt and embarrassed if their child came out as transgendered.
I find being supportive of the people you love is the right approach, forget about yourself, it's about them. If you are feeling deeply hurt, or embarrassed, just get over yourself. Do what you can to get your kids feeling comfortable and supported. Love them, be PROUD of them. be genuinely PROUD
Proud of what? Them mutilating themselves because of feelings? Just, no. I can understand why some parents would be deeply upset.
Proud of your kids, for being happy, for getting on with life, for finding a path to happiness.
