Putin's not going to worry about mere words, and few Americans of any political persuasion are in the mood for a fight with Russia...

Doesn't really make a difference. The Armed Forces go where they're sent.

Yes, but Russia did not agree to put caps on them..so they can build more...from what I heard on TV today.
Russia will agree to anything that Biden wants and he will think he has accomplished something fantastic and then the Russians will do what they have always done which is what ever serves them best, that is why Trump dropped the last agreement.

Russia is an authoritarian rogue state so the pressure that the US can realistically put on them to comply is going to be limited. But at least making a gesture towards the treaty gives the US moral high ground.

Fantastic that Biden brings these topics up.

The previous president either seemed scared, uninterested or in agreement with Putin
Just a reminder Biden was part of the administration that allowed the Russian takeover of Crimea, refused to arm the Ukraine, and failed to back up the red line against chemical weapons in Syria

Moral high ground means nothing to Russia, or China, or North Korea. Biden is being tested and there is good reason to doubt that he will pass the tests.

Moral high ground always matters when it comes to reputation, if the US cares about global leadership.

Perhaps because he didn't want to start WWIII.

Just a reminder that trump was the president when Russia was putting actual bounties on US military personnel ... and trump wouldn't (and didn't) do anything about it.

did Trump start WWIII when he armed the Ukraine?
Perhaps you have forgotten that trump withheld aid to Ukraine in exchange for dirt on Biden (before Biden had even declared a run for president). Turns that was unlawful, but everyone knows trump doesn't care about the law.
He did not back down to Iran or North Korea either.
And the positive sum of that ended up being zero, zilch, nada.

North Korea is still North Korea launcing missils across Japan and Iran has restarted their uranium enrichment programs. IOW the exact OPPOSITE of what anyone wanted.

So much for "not backing down to Iran or North Korea".

I'm not for Trump or Biden....but Biden is going to be pushed around by other countries. Biden doesn't have the foot to put down.
I dont think Biden is in debt to people with Kremlin connections. So he's got that going for him.

What’s Biden going to do about it? What did the Soviet Union do about back in the 80’s when in was the US backing the mujahadeen?

Moral high ground as defined by who?

Morale makes a difference for the Armed Forces, and public opinion certainly makes a difference for the President...

Just a reminder to everyone that Trump was the leader of the administration that removed sanctions on Russia as soon as Trump took office. Sanctions that had been imposed because Russia had interfered in the 2016 USA presidential election. Trump himself deflected reports of Russia interfering by saying it was the Chinese or some fat man living in his mothers basement, he then went on to side with Putin and oppose his own intelligence agencies. He then again deflected by suggesting it was the Chinese when Russia was again accused of a major hack in 2020.
