At a rural church, the pastor arrived to find a mule had died on the doorsteps. Reluctantly, he called the Chairman of the Deacons, who he didn't get along with.
"I hate to bother, you, brother, but there's a dead mule on the church steps," he said.
"Well, preacher, if you'll remember our last business meeting, we decided that the church is your responsibility and the grounds my responsibilities, and the church steps are part of the church."
"Yes, brother, but when there's a death in the church family, it's my responsibility to inform the next of kin."
