I think it's just the norm, like, everybody does it, so just go along with the norm. And then if you don't, you're looked at weird. Most people think it's harmless...but I don't really like the idea of it personally. I know for a fact I wouldn't do Santa with my kids unless it was in the manner where they know Santa's not real. I don't think I could in good conscience lead my kid to believe something is real, that isn't, if that makes sense. And I know a lot of people compare it to fairy tales, how kids believe fairy tales are real, and I suppose that's true lol but then I was raised without them as well. But fairy tales to me, the kid might believe they're real but it's up to me what I teach them so I can teach them that they are fun stories and you can dream and have fun, without teaching them that it's truth. But that's me. And it is an opinion that I am MUCH in the minority and I know that. I get a lot of flame for it usually if I speak it but lately I don't really care what people think of my opinion :D I'm not saying everyone has to believe that...that's just ME and my beliefs ^_^

Just for fun, here's my left hand writing ^_^

Makin' believe...how can it be a joy when it is a lie though? I don't know about that...like...God doesn't like lying, and it technically is a lie...if I want to be nitty gritty about it (which I really don't lol)...I know it's seen as harmless and "just" make believe...I'm kinda split on that. I think the stories are great...and man, kids have imagination like crazy...they make things up all the time...but that doesn't mean I have to let them believe that something is real, that isn't. I don't know...it's kinda half an half for me. I don't think parents are wrong for doing that with their kids, I just know I couldn't do it to the point of letting my kid believe it was real without my conscience bugging me about lying. But...that's me...and I'm ok with most people not agreeing with me ^_^ I know my idea is a little out there.

Lol now now Daddy you'd make a good Grandpa :) I would be proud for my kiddos to call you Grandpa, if I ever had any...

I think pretending is fine...but the kid actually believes that Santa/Easter bunny/whoever is real...because that's what we teach them. So if we were to teach them that this is for fun but that they're not real, then that's what they'd grow up learning...we could pretend for fun...but pretending isn't lying...because when you pretend, you know it's not real. If that makes any sense ^_^

Anyway didn't mean for this to get all serious :D Me and my opinions lol

Exactly, Tins...i think it's something people go along with. I don't like the idea of Santa too much because there are kids who are in abusive homes and they may not receive anything for Christmas...and then, they see their classmates receive all this stuff, and perhaps they are behaved better, but their classmates aren't...and so it might cause a kid to feel bad about himself. :( I remember a girl who came from a poor household when I was growing up, and she asked me one day in second grade if kids who were 'better' got more presents. I'll never forget her.

But anyway! lol

Jimmy...I love my friends' kids but maybe you are right. Maybe someday. :) lol

Awww man, that goes straight to the heart :( Poor kid...that's true, didn't think about that aspect of it either. If I recall correctly, the real St. Nick actually gave presents to the poor...whereas the Santa of today is all about "what can I get?" and I don't like that it's become so self centered...it leaves people out, and like in that case, makes them feel like they're worse than someone else and that is just not cool at all.

I don't think there's a lot of harm in it, generally...but yeah...didn't think about the kids who don't get much of anything...who have to deal with school...that'd be rough.

But yes...lol anyway...the things we talk about ^_^

I hope no one thinks I'm a self-righteous snob...I don't want to be that way. It's just my opinion...how I see things...we all have opinions...lol I just happen to be vocal about mine.

Aww I think you should go...what I wouldn't give to be able to go to church with my Dad!

My church has a sunrise service and the normal Sunday morning service, with a breakfast between I think...not quite sure...all I know is that I won't be up to go outside and freeze for a sunrise service :D So I will be going to the normal service lol
