Mandrake said:The OP is ridiculous. Educate yourself about Islam and don't post obviously biased sets of fallacious comparisons with quotes from one holy book but not the other. Islam, Christianity and all other religions on earth can be fairly criticized for the actions of their adherents. This kind of thinking does nothing but further sectarian divisions and prejudices.

no, i'm sorry, but christ would never be dishonest, and am even more unsettled knowing some christians would attribute this behavior to him.BigChrisfilm said:Hey, I hope you don't mind, but I am posting this in the Non-christian section, and I will give you a credit, unless you would like me to take it down, I think this is an amazing testiment to our savior Jesus Christ.![]()

imind said:it always amazes that those who claim to have such strong faith must always cling to these non-sensical comparisons to justify it.
i am also unsettled at how often i must remind supposed christians not to lie, and that to state an unknown as fact is a lie.
if you don't want to educate yourself on the muslim religion, fine, i have no problem with that. but don't claim to know anything about it after refusing to learn about it; don't claim to know truth about something you adamantly avoid.
christ is god, muhammad was a prophet, and any comparison is faulted from the beginning.
again, i must ask. is your faith so weak as to need this 'justification'.
you are missing something. muhammad was a prophet, at least in the eyes of muslims.BigChrisfilm said:Ok, so you are a christian who think Mohammad was a prophet? Am I missing something here?

the OP is a complete misrepresentation of islam, selectively choosing, and taking out of context, quranic text (though i can't even be certain of that, as none of it is cited).
BigNorsk said:The original post kind of takes a style that seems to be popular today and basically seems to me to try a discredit Islam by kind of taking some popular conceptions and making them look insightful by doing the comparisons.
It is my opinion that it completely misses the important distinctions between Islam and Christianity.
1. The first a foremost difference is whether or not Jesus is God.
2. Islam denies that Jesus died on the cross. It teaches that he was assumed up to heaven before he died. The result is that in Islam, your sins have not been paid for by Jesus. The result is that you live your life under the law attempting to be good enough to be rewarded with eternal life in heaven. This produces 3.
3. Islam is missing the Gospel, there is no "good news". It rejects the Gospel to return to a law. It is fundamentally salvation through works.
4. The trinity is rejected repeatedly. In Mohammed's defense, the trinity spoken of where he was at the time was most commonly the father, the son, and the mother, that is Mary, Jesus' Mother. The Quran gives some insight into the gobblygook that was being taught in Mohammed's time as Christianity. The problem comes when people read it thinking that the Christianity that Mohammed is speaking of is shall we say orthodox or correctly understood Christianity. Even so, Mohammed respected the Bible and Christians, something often lacking in various flavors of Islam.
Mohammed was illiterate, he also was a reformer at heart. We can only speculate how things would have been changed if he could have actually read the Bible instead of having only what Christians told him to go by. It's not too surprising that he didn't grasp Christianity, reading the Quran, it becomes clear that those who told him what Christianity was didn't grasp it either.
Anyway, I digress. I think those 4 things are much more important and are much more foundational differences between Islam and Christianity. People have used both the Quran and the Bible to justify their sins. Proof texting has no boundaries.

As of recently I have been engaging in a very interesting conversation with Muslims and have even been studying Islam in my apologetics class.
If the original post was simply comparing the persons of Jesus and Mohammed, they are clearly different people. Just a quick listing of a few things:
Jesus: Taught Forgiveness (Matt 5: 38 - 39)
Mohammed: Taught revenge (Surah 2:194)
Jesus - Dislike the sword (Matt 26:52)
Mohammed - Like the sword (Surah 8:65)
Jesus - Words never change (Matt 24:35)
Mohammed - Message changed (Surah 16:101)
These are just a few things to note. Also, historically Mohammed was quite protective of the Jews and Christians under his authority, at least early in his ministry. In the later years it is noted by many historians that his attitude toward the People of The Book (Jews & Christians) changed dramatically - even to teaching that Muslims should not even be friends with them (Surah 5:51).
Muslims look to the Quran, hadiths and Sunnah for their clear message for Allah - supposedly the same person as God, but that's for another thread. According to the teachings of the Quran it is a correction of the purposeful and accidnetal misinterpertaion of the Bible by the People of The Book.
I also find it interesting to note that the ministry of Jesus was marked by non violence, peace and love. Mohammed spent half of his minstry if full scale warfare - not counting the small raids that he led before becoming a very influential political leader. His ministry, though according to Muslims was a message of peace it is had to simply ignore the large part that warfare and vengance played in his life.
But after reading about him, I learned he got his info from a group of heretics, so naturally he is askew in his info of Christ.
