It was called chemical evolution before it was called abiogenesis

Yes, to differentiate it from biological evolution, which is what Darwin's theory is about. There's "stellar evolution" too. But that's not part of Darwin's theory, either.

I'm just confused by "common ancestor "

Chimps are apes that evolved from a different ape which was neither chimp nor human. At some point, a species of ape existed that gave rise to both humans and chimps, but was neither human nor chimp.

Both species have evolved a long way from that common ancestor. But we are genetically closer to chimps than either of us is related to any other living species. So genetics says that the common ancestor diverged from other apes before humans and chimps evolved.

Humans and apes have a common ancestor but all apes have have a another ancestor. That is confusing. That's why I asked
Hopefully the article will help explain this to you.

How many different stages does it involve?

All that's really necessary is for a chemical system to be able to continously gain energy from the enviornment, and replicate by itself. That would be the most primitive form of life. Here's an informative article by the Royal Society, that suggests Darwinian principles might be applied to non-biological evolution. Worth reading.

I have heard that the moment that Earth cooled enough for fossilized life to even be possible…there was fossilized life.

It appears that the universe is "front loaded" to produce life. Which is consistent with what God says in Genesis.

But then someone told me that we don’t fully know how it works yet, but we have some of it figured out. I really have no idea what that even means so if you can dumb an explanation down for me I’d appreciate it ^_^ ^_^

Some important clues include the discovery that RNA can self-catalyze, and that amino acids and even short protein sequences form abiotically. And there's the chemical research on ocean vents:

Furthermore, using the DNA sequences of modern organisms, biologists have tentatively traced the most recent common ancestor of all life to an aquatic microorganism that lived in extremely high temperatures — a likely candidate for a hydrothermal vent inhabitant! Although several lines of evidence are consistent with the hypothesis that life began near deep sea vents, it is far from certain: the investigation continues and may eventually point towards a different site for the origin of life.

So what is missing is the transitional between this common ancestor and man. Unless it was Lucy?
Except such transitional species have been found.

We now have a large number of transitional forms in fossils. Not surprisingly, Australopithecines are anatomically transitional between forest apes and humans in hips, knees, and spines. Exactly what you'd expect of a transitional ape becoming bipedal.

How do you know they're not just other species of apes (respectfully

All of us, including humans are species of ape. They just happen to be transitional between forest apes and humans.

As YE creationist Kurt Wise says, the presence of the predicted transitionals is "very good evidence for macroevolutionary theory." He still doesn't believe it himself, preferring his reading of Genesis, but he's honest enough to admit it.

What's more compelling, is we don't see any transitionals that shouldn't be there according to evolutionary theory.

So you believe man evolved from Apes instead of being created by God through Adam and Eve?

So you believe man evolved from Apes

If God chose to produce our bodies by evolution, why would you find that offensive?

instead of being created by God through Adam and Eve?

Man's body was produced by God just as the other animals' bodies were produced. What made Adam and Eve different (and all of us different) was that we directly received a living soul from God. As C.S. Lewis pointed out, you are not a body. You are a soul. You have a body.

Interesting

Genesis 2:7 And the Lord God formed man of the slime of the earth: and breathed into his face the breath of life, and man became a living soul.
