  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry I'm not addressing all those who encouraged me personally. Please know that I appreciate it very much.

Now on to the "naysayers." ;) When I talk about Christ being a mother I mean spiritually. He doesn't have literal breast's and a womb. He doesn't look like a female. Of course He arose from the dead with a masculine body. Paul refers to Him as The Man Christ Jesus.

Here's something else to think about. When Jesus died on the cross His side was pierced by a spear and blood and water came from His side, the same as in childbirth. We were birthed from His side. Some saints have been privledged to drink form the side wound of Jesus. Jesus is often pictured as the one who nourished by feeding the children the life giving blood that flows from His wounds. Jesus called His disciples, "children."

I have known Jesus as both a Father and a Mother. I love the language that Julian of Norwich uses and she is a part of the Catholic Church.

I don't have a New Age concept of Christ. I seek to honor Him, not dishonor Him. I seek to defend His divinity.

I already said where Mary fits in. She is my Mother as well but she is not a great as the One who feeds me His own body and blood. I look to Jesus more than her. He was the one who ministered to me throughout my life.

And yes I went to psychiatrists. You speak as though experiencing the compassion and caring of Jesus is a bad thing or to lean totally on Him like a crutch is not good.. A crutch is something to be disgarded. He was much more than that for me. As I told BA He was like a stretcher. I had no mother! do you get that? I had no one to hold me close, protect me, tuck me into bed at night, tell me that I was precious and loved. If you think that Jesus wouldn't fill that place well...what can I say?

The Lord said to His own disciples "who is my mother, father, sister, brother but ALL those who do my Father's will." If Jesus doesn't have a problem calling us these things why would He have a problem calling Him our Mother."

Jesus is my Brother, Friend, Savior, King, Lord, Father and I have also known Him as My Mother. I will never take that back. He was there for me when no one else was. I'm sorry that some of you can't understand that.

How banal.

Such banality demonstrates a true and serious lack of respect for Our Lord and His divinity.
You know this is very upsetting. you haven't a clue who I am. You haven't walked in my shoes...you are not inside my heart. You haven't experienced my life...Yes He is a stretcher which means that sometimes I felt totally helpless and had to depend 110% on Him. Even Christ said "apart from Me you can do (what?) nothing." (John 15)

And to say that I dishonor the Lord...that really hurt TLF.

You don't have to sell us on the premise, we get it, but it's the language-- its New Age.

and this writer can be Catholic all she wants, her writings are just that, her writtings and as i understand it, JPll also condemn the language. This is not any doctrine of the Church and this writer is not a Saint. Keep that in mind. We take these kind of writtings with a grain of salt.

So it's not the devotion, it's the wording. Jesus is not "our mother..." Mary is, but i get the whole birthing the Church thing... I agree but we do not build a creed around it and Mary was at Christ side His whole life and is right now, she birthed us and the Church too, this is what you are not willing to admit.

and about Mary not giving you the body and blood... yea, she did give it to you, she is who gave Jesus the flesh and blood that nourishes you... He took His flesh and blood from Mary.

and are you receiving Communion? or is this body and blood a metaphor for you?

I am sorry that it hurt. To see Christ compared to a stretcher was offensive. When God is spoken of on such low terms, it does demean Him in speach even if not in intent.

We must be aware of how we speak of God, not just the ideas we are trying to convey, which is at the heart of the disagreement in this thread.

It is not the ideas you are trying to convey that are a problem, it is how you have chosen to speak of them, not just simply saying Jesus is "like" a mother to you, but actually calling Jesus "Our Mother" which we have seen is not in keeping with Divine Revelation or what the Church gives us as our faith and practice today.

As for banal statements, they are obvious on their face and should not be used. No more needs be said.

And you know what kisstheson?

It seems that it doesn't concern you at all when what something you say upsets Catholics here in our own forum, but if a Catholic says something that is upsetting to you, it matters, right?

Maybe you should think about that . . . .

She is not upsetting me at all, it's her forum too- maybe even more than yours.

Jesus is greater than Mary. everytime I talk about Jesus I don't have to mention Mary.

I know I don't have a New Age Christ. I believe in the apostles creed.

I've shared my heart. I spoke of how Jesus helped me to forgive, get over my fears, gave me back my self esteem, healed my emotions and all you can do in knit pick because I'm not talking about Mary enough. Just say, "I'm am blessed He did that for you." And give Him the glory.

leave it at that.

It's foolish to debate what Jesus has done for a person.

No one said you did. :)

It is your terminology that is the problem.

She is a Catholic.

In full communion with the Holy See as the FSG's state for membership here? I haven't seen that established. In fact, she dissents actively from Church teaching in certain areas, which negates assent and thus full communion with the Holy See.

This is public knowledge.

You are not the judge of that and have no business making that statement in public.

The FSG's control participation in this forum.

To be in partial communion with the Holy See is not the same thing as being in FULL Communion as the FSG's require.

Thank you for explaining that you are only in partial communion with the Holy See as you admit you dissent from part of Church teaching.

And, it is my responsiblity to warn you, as it is the responsiblity of all Catholics in full communion with the Holy See to do so, if you are partaking in communion without having been fully reconciled to the Church through confessoin, you are doing so in disobedience to the Church.

Look KTS, Jesus does not "feed" us His Body and Blood outside of the actual sacrament-- yes, there is spiritual communion for when we are not able to receive the sacrament but it's not a replacement for it. You need the Church.

Jesus received His body and blood from Mary- undeniable fact.. and no one said the Mary is greater then Jesus-- no one is asking yo to give up Jesus, just to accept what is not heterodoxy but orthodox (right teaching) theology (knowledge of God).

and I know you believe in the AC- I mean do not built your entire belief system off of this one mystic. There are many facets to Jesus.

We just can not make up what ever we want to believe... there is error and then there is truth and then there is speculation.

I know Jesus filled you with what you needed, a mother and father and he healed you, praise His name but Mary does have a place in all this and it's not greater then Jesus, who for real said she was?

She is not just, oh she birthed Him and that it. She united herself to Him and His heart became her heart so it's the two hearts and from His cross, you can not keep denying that he gave her to us to mother us. If Mary was good enough to be Jesus mother, why is she not good enough to be ours?

Unless one thinks Mary did a bad job raising Jesus or that Jesus didn't really need a mother- she was just for show or something, why wouldn't anyone take her in as John did? If a person is motherless, why not jump at the chance of having Mary, mother of Jesus, be your mother.

like I said, if she was good enough for God to place Himself with, then dang... she has to be good enough for us.

it depends on which priest you talk to. I believe more than what some catholics believe, that the communion is the literal body and blood.

Now I'm ending it here.

I'm not going to debate my spirituality with you any more.

Peace and love.

No, it does not depend on that... it depends on you making a sacramental confession where you truly come home and denounce any other 'church.' To come home is to accept the Church's teachings. You can't have one foot in and one foot out.

When you say Amen to the Host-- you are saying Amen to ALL mother Church purposes for our belief.

Where did I say I wasn't talking about Holy Communion? There are some instances where saints were lifted to the side of Christ and drank from that same side. And it was not during communion. But yes I do believe in Holy Communion.

Jesus received His body and blood from Mary- undeniable fact.. and no one said the Mary is greater then Jesus-- no one is asking yo to give up Jesus, just to accept what is not heterodoxy but orthodox (right teaching) theology (knowledge of God).

I do. I beleive in all the right dogma about Mary. I just choose to emphasize Christ more. I have been closer to Him, more than Mary.

and I know you believe in the AC- I mean do not built your entire belief system off of this one mystic. There are many facets to Jesus.

I'm not making anything up that is not supported by the scriptures and what the Church teaches.

I never said that Mary wasn't my Mother. I am closer to Jesus. He treated me like a Mother. Is this a mortal sin or something? what's so horrible about that?

Wow! I feel like Joan of Arc! All this cross examination. ;)

Please, stop attacking her character.
