  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Lol, my nan would be turning over in her grave if she heard you say this. Wouldn't be hard to find you either she knows where you are. She's the one who said all this. :p

With all do respect to your Nan, a great lady, she was heavily indoctrinated. Still with that said, I shall leave the subject be in her honor. I am sure I can be a hated group else where.

Really? You mean like the Crusades? The civil war in Bosnia? The terrorism in Northern Ireland? The Iraqi War? All that stuff, which was partly or totally done in the name of Christianity?

Are you kidding me?!

The Crusades were a defensive action against Seljuq incursions into Christian lands. A small amount of research reveals that the overwhelming majority of the crusades were justified.

The civil war in Bosnia was also fought for good reason. I support the Serbs but this would be a heck o fa debate.

And what war in Iraq are we talking about?

Another note: the IRA is largely a socialist military and has some Marxist, atheist views within it. It is very politicla in and of itself.

Just finished watching the whole thing. What a fascinating documentary. And the filmmakers are quite sympathetic to Fischer and the children.

You know, I am REALLY sympathetic to these chidren's situations. And I am in some part sympathetic to Fischer herself. I think if a church makes an effort especially to get troubled children out of dysfunctional situations and give them some spiritual guidance, that's great. And yes, there is a TON of two faced behavior among adult and youth christians alike who attend regularly but don't practice the principles in their daily lives.

Where I have to draw the line is promoting a war-like mentality. That, and the bizarre anti scientific anti rationalism. That part is beyond pathetic.

I have mixed feelings about Fischer. There is a lot of potential there.

Well, sure she does. But isn't that the MO at many if not most fundamentalist, doctrinaire churches anyway, for adults or children? If you look at it from the positive perspective, this gives them motivation to change and improve themselves? What if illiterate children were constantly being positively reinforced and told they were great students even though they couldn't read? Just for the sake of argument, that is.

The solution for children who aren't doing well isn't to berate and belittle them, tactics like that produce .. little institutionalized zombies... or fundamentalist fanatics of any belief system and perhaps marines...

You gotta check this out:

http://www.amazon.com/Jesus-Camp-Be..._bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1222064598&sr=8-1

About 80 million Americans describe themselves as evangelicals. They are home schooling their children, teaching them "creationism" and other...stuff.

One lady calls the children who are dutiful enough to attend church "fat and lazy," even though she herself is probably 100 lbs. overweight.

She then goes on to encourage the children to speak in tongues. She says that they have to get to the children, since the "muslims" are teaching their children to "strap bombs to their bodies when they're 5 and 6." Isn't this wonderful? It's a cold war between muslims and christians to see who can train the most suicide bombers.

Sometimes, you can't make stuff up this strange.
Well, I don't believe in the speaking of tongues by modern Christians. Honestly I don't even understand what they're trying to do. BUT . . .

Christians do not train suicide bombers, nor do the Jesus camp people. Given that speaking in gibberish is very benign, especially compared to suicide bombing, it is irrational to equate speaking in tongues by Christians to suicide bombing by Muslims. In truth it is factually incorrect to say Christians train suicide bombers. Stop saying that, eves_adam

Oh please she mentally beat those children into feeling bad for being themselves! And how at five can you make a life long decision?
Mentally beating people is an awesome power. Almost as awesome as the power to kill a yak.

From 200 yards away.

With MIIIIIIIIND BULLETS!

How about the power . . . to move you?

*raises eyebrow* What I find kind of funny though is she's calling them fat and lazy but in fact if she would just give up the twinkies and use all that evangelical energy up for walking she wouldn't be so hypocritical.

But Becky something or other (I've forgotten her last name) who runs the camp in the film said she wants Christians to train up their children in the faith more like those fundamentalist Muslim folks do.

Which Buddha said that? At what time in history, and do we really know that Buddha existed?

The OP is a flame and I didn't see the need to ask questions as to why it was posted in the first place.

Their were many buddha's thousands, a buddha is a wise person. We know they exhist, becuase smart people exhist. We also have historical records of his teachings and the original buddha.

Infact it is believed the jesus traveled in india once where he had a discussion with one rather well known buddha over matters of philosiphy and ethics.

Care to disprove your own saviour?

Please don't try and pop at my religion, your post was a blatant attack on my beliefs, it had nothing to do with the subject matter.

Your in my thoughts, I read your posts and I feel for you.

My blessings are to you.
