  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

You gotta check this out:

http://www.amazon.com/Jesus-Camp-Be..._bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1222064598&sr=8-1

About 80 million Americans describe themselves as evangelicals. They are home schooling their children, teaching them "creationism" and other...stuff.

One lady calls the children who are dutiful enough to attend church "fat and lazy," even though she herself is probably 100 lbs. overweight.

She then goes on to encourage the children to speak in tongues. She says that they have to get to the children, since the "muslims" are teaching their children to "strap bombs to their bodies when they're 5 and 6." Isn't this wonderful? It's a cold war between muslims and christians to see who can train the most suicide bombers.

Sometimes, you can't make stuff up this strange.

I watched as many videos of "Jesus Camp" on youtube as I could. I thought the whole thing was sick! Mass hypnosis and brainwashing, nothing more.

The absurdity of a 7 yr old child saying that he wanted to be saved because "he wanted more out of life". As another youtube video with Bill Maher showed, what could possess a 7 yr old to come to the conclusion that he wanted more out of life?

"He was up to 5 Orios a day", said Bill Maher. Hilarious.

I'm against the indoctrination of living beings, no matter how old they are, our children and adults should be taught only two things.

1. To ask questions, to explore and think, not just follow the path blindly.
2. To be honest in their beliefs, if they don't believe in something, then they shouldn't, if they honestly do, then they should.

If they have these tools, true knowledge will come their way.

Which Buddha said that? At what time in history, and do we really know that Buddha existed?

The OP is a flame and I didn't see the need to ask questions as to why it was posted in the first place.

Ugh! Jesus Camp is vile! In November 2006, Becky Fischer announced the camp would be shut down indefinitely due to negative reaction to the film and concerns about possible vandalism. She said the camp would be back once other premises could be found. I don't know if the camp ever reopened but I sure hope not. Becky Fischer, in my opinion, is insane. She, and the parents who allow their children to be subjected to this mental and emotional abuse, are wicked, wicked people. That film disgusted and sickened me. It didn't go over well with many Christians who've seen it either.[/rant]

Why is it a flame? Jesus Camp has been brought up here numerous times. the the movie set a lot of people's teeth on edge - of course it was kind of amusing to see that gay minister joking about knowing "what you did last night" when shortly after the documentary was made everyone knew exactly what HE did last night.. and it had nothing to do with what he preached from the pulpit.

The emotional manipulation of children in that film was quite abusive.

I felt bad for those kids to be honest. Some of them seemed so sweet and they're being subjected to that kind of brainwashing.

However, I particularly shocked by one scene where one of the kids were describing how they don't want to be around non-Christians because it would make them feel dirty. Or something along those lines.

Becky Ficsher was scary, especially when it seemed like she almost respected the devotion of Muslim extremists. Yeah that was disturbing.

There are 80 million evangelical Christians, oK ,cool.

My parents are evangelicals...

Never, ever did I go to Church and be told who to vote for; never did I learn any 'battle cries' like in the film, never did I be told to hang out with non-Christians. In fact, there were large efforts in the church to reach out to non-Christians.

Evangelical churches in North Dakota in 1994-1995 even sponsored anti-death sentence ads on TV...

Look, Jesus Camp is irrelevant. That is not how 99% of the 80 million Evangelicals are.

Want a good idea how evangelicals are?

Well, since this is allegedly 1 in 3 Americans, think of 10 Americans you know and if 3 of them are indeed preaching young-earth creationism down your throat and promoting all this garbage, then you can come and tell me.

NOTE: I did live in Texas for 7 months; only once did somebody advocate very strict, young-earth creationism to me.

The rest of the time if someone said anything they usually railed against alcoholism... Is that so bad?

Fatwah envy is quite common amongst the more radical elements of Christianity. Sad, really.

Ugh I'm going to puke. "I think Galileo did the right thing when he gave up science for grace". If only the kid knew the truth. *sigh*

And the whole "science doesn't prove anything".

You know the reason why Galileo was under fire primarily stemmed from his very offensive and personal criticism of the Church after they told him to stop -- and not stop bcause they disapproved, stop because there were other monks doing the exact same work?

All the charges against the Catholic church were trumped up by Protestants.

Funniest line:
"At 5, I decided that I wanted more in life."

Scariest scene:
Telling the kids to lay hands on a cardboard cutout of Dubya.

I have never, ever witnessed anything like that in any other Church.

It's a fluke.

Did you know it was a fluke? Some strange, radical camp?

Or do you not want to accept the truth?

"America is supposed to be gods nation". Aren't we the most evangelical christian nation out there? What else is there?

We are actually not the most religious nation in terms of Christianity; Ireland and Italy allegedly have us beat, but I am not positive. For protestantism I think we are numbero uno .

Fatwah envy is quite common amongst the more radical elements of Christianity. Sad, really.

You have zero proof of that, I assume. Show me it.

And even define 'more radical.'

Your statement is awesome, though, because finally an atheist is turning some slight shade of criticism to radical Islam .I praise you for that. :groupray:
