  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just wondering what your thaughts on this were. Frankly it scares me, if this catches on i fear for the future ao America and the rest of the world. America is a powerful country and if it falls into the wrong hands
(again) (someone like fred phelps) like one of these future adults of america well it could end up like a christian, very power version of a muslim country(or well of what the media potrays of a muslim country, not all muslims are fundamentalists) When i see the future i see world war three. But then again i could be going insane and taking this wayy out of proportion.

That's the wrong question. As Sam Harris put it, atheism is what people of common sense say in the presence of religious dogma. Not wishing at all to call theists "people of no common sense", I'll say that they are people who have not applied their common sense to religion.

A better question might be "Islam has suicide bombers, Catholicism has paedophile priests, Protestants have fundamentalists, and what does democracy have?"

ammmm, tolerance? well most of us. You can't throw everyone in the same box. :)
Tolerance? Please define atheist tolerance as the traditional meaning of it has been somewhat distorted.

We atheists have plenty of tolerance. Just look at the U.S. natinonal motto. ~_~
No, you don't. Pierre Eugene du Simitiere (the inventor of the "E pluribus unum" motto) had true tolerance, atheists of today have cowardice, the "give-in and maybe they won't insult us" mentality.

You are in dire need of defining what "common sense", according to atheist standards, is. Care to explain why only atheists seem have sense, despite the obvious lack of it in their arguments.

As for the pedophilia: True, there are a few unsubstantiated accusations made against priests, about 4,150 over the past 50 years, which equals out to about 83 per year. Whereas in two months, in one county, by three teachers, there were three acts of pedophilia committed by teachers against a student. Since there are 3,150 counties across the country, I'll let you people figure out a number for this one about how many atheists commit acts of pedophilia in a school in one year alone (and this isn't talking about those outside of school).

So, what does atheism have again?

By the way, here's the source:

It has? Not taht I've seen. I'll go with the traditional meaning.

Can you support this rather ridiculous claim?

A 'few' 'unsubstantiated'? Are you kidding?

The fact that there were acts committed by teachers is completely irrelevant to the fact that there were acts committed by priests. Unlike the RCC, no teachers' organisation claims to be the moral light of the world.

And the link you gave refers mainly to a single case of a teacher and a 15 year old boy - not paedophilic, sorry. I wouldn't call it child abuse by any stretch of the imagination. There is nothing in the article to indicate the boy was in any way coerced, reluctant or distressed.

So, what does atheism have again?
Sorry, but nothing you've offered suggests anything about what atheism might have. Certainly, you've given nothing at all to indicate that any of the teachers concerned were atheists.

And what does atheism have?
Idiots... No offence but an atheists tried to claim the other day because the mirical of resurrection (well like the one Jesus went through) has not happened at any other point in history there for it could not have happened... *head-desk* following the same logic others could claim the "big-bang" did not happen.

Every group has its weirdos. Atheists aren't exempt from this. Jesus Camp was a bit out there, sure, but hardly indicative of all/most Christians.
completely agree.
