This was a reply to another thread, but I wanted to see what answer it has in terms of evolution.

Thats not the evolution I understand.

Besides, according to your belief Jesus is only a few thousand years from being dirt.

If Adam evolved from lower life forms, and we TE's are not insulted by that, why would we be insulted that thousands of years later, Jesus, as fully human, would also be a member of a species that evolved from lower life forms. The main point is, as a TE, God DID IT. This is God's method of creation, so we would not view it as an insult to our Lord and Savoir by any stretch of the imagination.

this thread is an argument from personal incredulity that is meant to poison the well, i don't see any value in it.

i would take a moment to point out that the distance from God to mankind is infinite.
that the distance from each of us to any form of life is finite.
this makes the argument deeply flawed, simply put, having come an infinite distance, in the incarnation, what does a little further matter to God?

I remember the pastor with whom I took confirmation class explaining the Apostles' Creed to us. When it came to the part about the virgin birth, he made the point that at the time the creed was written the hot-button word was not "virgin"; it was "birth".

Some Christian groups tended toward Gnosticism, and to them it was a disgusting insult to our savior to say he was born of any flesh, even that of a virgin.

The Apostles' Creed was a ward against the sort of heresy that devalues God's material creation---and with it, the Incarnation of our Lord.

If human flesh is related to that of the apes --- and it certainly looks like it is --- then the human flesh of Christ is so related. So if the Son of God condescends to become our brother in the flesh, he already knows what that means and does so willingly. Why then should we take offence where he does not?

[Sigh]

Once again (not that you'll take a blind bit of notice), it's of course between the parable of the quantum fluctuation and the five Redox Statements.

Alternatively, try considering the statement "Jesus wasn't a science teacher".

Can you answer this question - what separates man from apes in Gods eyes? Is it physical differences? God has no interest in physical traits. He has given us a soul and spirit and (as far as I am aware) all YEC's, OEC's and TE's believe this to be the key difference between us and animals. All else is irrelevant.

So then is Adam simply the first ape to be given a soul, therefor making him human, a different species?

We don't know exactly how God did it or who he did it to.

But the bible says that we were created in his image and since God isn't a physical being, what aspect of His image do you think He created us in?

I believe it to be things like the soul, love, ability to create, etc.

Where does Jesus tell us we didn't? Why would He provide such instruction? His mission was not to be a science teacher, but to seek and save the lost......

You may as well ask, where does Jesus tell us that birds use their wings to develop an air foil that allows them to float on the air? That information wasn't exactly relavent to his mission.

Well, if you believe the Genesis account it would appear that God made a man from the dust of the Earth. As for what aspect of His image God created us, I would say esthetically. The bible often mentions God having hands, I presume with opposing thumbs, and having eyes and a mouth, I presume with lips. Certainly we aren't made with His powers, authority or good judgment. Are you saying animals do not have a soul or cannot love?

Since we agree that God created us in His image, do single cell organisms have a soul, do they love?
