Back in 1998 Jerry Nadler, the current House Judiciary Chairman, had something interesting to say about impeachment:
Flashback: What Nadler said about impeaching a president in 1998
"There must never be a narrowly voted impeachment or an impeachment substantially supported by one of our major political parties and largely opposed by the other.
Such an impeachment would lack legitimacy, would produce divisiveness and bitterness in our politics for years to come and will call into question the very legitimacy of our political institutions".
It's rather interesting that his views have clearly changed over the years, as we now have him as the chairman of the House Judiciary leading the way to doing exactly what he had previously said must never be done.
