"The Senate Judiciary Committee voted along partisan lines Friday to advance the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh after securing a key vote from Sen. Jeff Flake, who asked for a delay of up to a week before the full Senate votes.

Flake (R-Ariz.) said the delay would allow a limited FBI investigation of allegations of sexual assault while Kavanaugh was a teenager.

.....

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), considered another swing vote, said in an interview that she supports Flake’s call for a delay."

Unfortunately his "call for an investigation" does not insure that one will actually occur. The Senate is not obligated to provide an investigation simply because Sen. Flake says he wants one.

True. However, Senators on the floor can vote accordingly.

If McConnell has the votes, there will be no delay.
If he doesn't, he'll give arm twisting and promises a try, which can take some time.

I think he's holding his full senate vote contingent on an investigation taking place. Given senate math, that could force the R's to request an investigation.

Given Senate math, Flake by himself is not enough. I would presume there's at least one more holding out for the investigation. Otherwise, a tie vote is decided by VP Pence.

Right. If there's one other hold out, then he's instrumental.... which is why I said he could force an investigation.

Apparently a couple R senators were on the bubble. Dont know if theyve sild to one side of the other yet.

What kind of a person is Sen. Flake to make a long-awaited decision one day, announce it, and then revoke it in a very public way the very next day although none of the issues had changed?

He did not revoke his yes vote in the committee. He voted aye and made it known what he expects to happen prior to a Senate Floor vote.

You mean he took ONE whole day to think this through, rather than decide instantly or hold to a pre-decision????

His statement of yesterday, however, was to the effect that he was not going to vote against Kavanaugh (which he also explained), not just about how he would vote in committee. There is no doubt about this as can be seen by how all the media analyzed it, both the liberal ones and the moderate ones.

You seem to suggest the Senator can't change his mind after listening to his Commitee colleagues. Is that right?

It has now been agreed upon by GOP senators to have another FBI background check on Kavanaugh. To me, it's just another stall tactic for new allegations to come forward, to crush the nomination, demand more investigations, and so on. Delay, delay, delay.

Good.
I think Kavanaugh wanted the FBI to investigate but he couldn't say so because the Rep. Senators didn't want to go there and they are his supporters. Maybe he was also concerned that Trump might withdraw his nomination.
