  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just post anything jazz or related to jazz, any era, any sub-genre, instrumental or containing lyrics, by either Christian or mainstream artists. It can be straight jazz or it can be blended with other styles.

That's it! :)

Okay, I'll start....

I like that one! I have really come to appreciate Brubeck's work, especially his compositions written in odd time signatures (he seemed to be famous for that), which is really intriguing to me for some reason. I'm on the lookout for such stuff.

Don Ellis is another legend who was notorious for composing pieces of such nature. Below is an extreme case, written in 33/8 (Yes, it's quite rowdy and wild, but it grows on you!)

Great cover of a 30s swing tune. Al's mute playing at about 1:35 is amazing. He kinda makes the trumpet talk. Very cool.

I like that! I enjoy the version with Shirley Temple and Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, from the movie Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (the year is wrong; it should be 1938). Great dancing, too!

A couple of classics:

This was a #2 hit single in the early 60s. A Russian song, in a Dixieland arrangement, performed by a British jazz group. Now that's multicultural.

For my money, this is still one of the best jazz vocals on record. Love the minimalist arrangement--just bass, percussion, and finger-snaps.

I have really come to appreciate Brubeck's work

I collect vinyl records, and I have a Brubeck one called "Jazz Impressions of New York City" which is fantastic. It really does capture the vibe of New York City in the era it was made pretty well (from what I can guess, it's a lot older than me)
