Of the classics, I love John Coltrane, Bird, Louis, Satchmo, Nina Simone, Bill Evans, Miles, Dizzy, Louis Bellson.... the basics.

Of the people who play in my area, I dig Rebecca Paris, Mark Massey, Poncho Sanchez, Francisco Aguabella, and, of course, my very talented bass-playing brother.

There are a bunch more I could list. Those are the first that came to mind.

L.A. is a great place to be for a jazz lover. :)

Does anyone know of any anointed jazz artists that carry the presence of God??? I am highly interested in purchasing their CDs!!!!!!!!!

If you are referring to Christian jazz and/or big band artists, here are a few to try for starters:

Denver and the Mile High Orchestra are really good. They have a neat CD called "Act The Scat".

Also, there is a group called the Pfeifers. They are considered to be "Southern Gospel", but they have a CD entitled "An Instrumental Collection" that have some great music of a big band/swing nature. I believe you will enjoy them.

Sax player Sam Levine does a lot of smooth, easy-listening jazz. Can't find an official Website on him, but I did find the following link:

You may want to check out Phil Driscoll (he's also a trumpet player, and sings throaty like mainstream music's Joe Cocker). I am having trouble accessing this link, so I may have to check it later. It's either busy, or it may have changed.

Then there's Dave Boyer. His style (his early works, anyway) is like that of Frank Sinatra and other crooners. Sometimes he is backed by Ralph Carmichael's band. He has a wonderful testimony, as well.

Sadly, Christian music seems to be thin in the area of this type of music. But I have heard music by all of these artists, and I am very pleased with their sounds.

I like the classics, such as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, etc. But I also like contemporary jazz artists like Diana Krall and Peter Cincotti.
Finally someone mentioned the Chairman of the Board!!!!

Sinatra, Sinatra, Sinatra, and need I mention Sinatra?!

Jane Monheit is awesome, too.

Most of you, being American, won't have heard of Stan Tracey (pianist) but he's one of my favourites.

Also, just discovered Joe Harriot, who was the first West Inidan/Brit to explore free jazz, taking it down similar but different routes to Ornette Coleman.

I also like Jan Garbarek, Monk, Miles Davies, Eric Dolphy, Palestinian sax player Gilad Atzmon, loads of others.

I listen to Jazz, Soul, Gospel and Pop a lot. My favorite jazz artists are Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Michel Petrucciani, Michel Camilo, Keith Jarrett, Stevie Wonder, Bobby McFerrin and Bill Evans. You would notice that most of them are keyboard players, because I love playing the keyboard.
