January 6 Committee Destroyed Records, Videos; Trump’s Rights Violated

Aug 9, 2023

The January 6 Committee defied a demand last year by incoming Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) that it preserve all of its records, evidence, and transcripts, and has destroyed much of what it collected over more than a year of investigation.

The House select committee that investigated the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021 failed to adequately preserve documents, data and video depositions – including communications it had with the Biden White House that are still missing – according to the Republican lawmaker overseeing the GOP investigation into the committee’s work.

The now-disbanded “J6” committee, which was run by Democrats and included only two GOP members, has also failed to provide any evidence that it looked into Capitol Hill security failures on the day of the riot, Rep. Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., chairman of the Subcommittee on Oversight for the Committee on House Administration, told Fox News Digital.

“Nothing was indexed. There was no table of contents index. Usually when you conduct this level of investigation, you use a database system and everything is digitized, indexed. We got nothing like that. We just got raw data,” he said. “So it took us a long time going through it and one thing I started realizing is we don’t have anything much at all from the Blue Team [which was to have investigated security lapses].”
Is this from The Fox News channel? Which the link looked like. The Fox News channel has proven to be a very un-reliable source. So, it can't be trusted.

As expected, a big non-response to claims made

Once Again:

Please provide "current reporting" that these Jan 6th records have been transfered to another branch of government as you claim, waiting?
Loudermilk wants to see what he thinks they are missing why doesn't he just ask the National Archives for copies?

Provide proof. You are the one in the OP claimed that records were destroyed. Prove it.
Trump believed (maybe believed) the unverified report from Loudermilk.

He posted - "Now that I have full Subpoena Power..."

What, he thinks he has subpoena power because his sister is a judge which doesn't give him "judge power". Not any more than having a nuclear scientist uncle somehow gave him knowledge of the subject through his genes.

He goes on in the post to say how the J6 committee destroyed documents, etc.

In all events, Trump returned to Bedminster on his jet and somewhere he got wind of a Fox News conspiracy theory and now he believes that he has just cause to have Jack Smith “withdraw” his indictment. Whut? Take a look.

I believe that what has been going on is that the documentation has gone to the DOJ for investigation (then an indictment and future trial) and those that have sensitive information have not been released. What Trump always wants to do is share the information with his spin first and to muddy up the facts or intimidate witnesses. In keeping the sensitive information from being released, Trump can't do that. So Trump wants his allies in congress to push getting the records so they can spin everything as they wish. The judge clarified about the discovery evidence yesterday by saying that keeping certain documents from being public is not a violation of the first amendment.

In a hearing Friday, US District Judge Tanya Chutkan set the tone for how she will preside over the 2020 election subversion case against former President Donald Trump.
Chutkan kicked off the hearing – the first in the case before her and one that took place in her courtroom at DC federal courthouse – noting that while Trump’s rights as a criminal defendant would be protected, his First Amendment right to free speech was “not absolute.”
The hearing focused on what limits would be placed on how the former president can handle the evidence prosecutors will be turning over to him.
The judge closed the hearing with a promise that the case would advance like any normal proceeding in the criminal justice system, but warned that the more “inflammatory” statements were made by a party, the quicker she would need to move toward a trial to preserve a fair jury.
“It is a bedrock principle of the judicial process in this country,” she said, while quoting precedent, “that legal trials are not like elections, to be won through the use of the meeting hall, the radio and the newspaper.”
“This case is no exception,” she said.

There are several adjectives that accurately describe the ex-president and this assertion. I'll just note he's confusing discovery and the ability to call witnesses for the defense with "subpoena power".

If the GOP request are public records that exist in the National archives, don't you think the liberal media would have provided these records to embarass Loudermilk?

It's my opinion at this time that the GOP claims are valid?

The Jan. 6th committee said they were turning documents (includes all kinds) to the DOJ, who is seeking to protect those documents from the public while doing the investigation and pursuing charges against Trump. The reason is the behvior that Trump has exhibited recently and in the past. He will blab out anything and give witnesses names and addresses, and there will be witness intimidation.

Loudermilk makes claims, he needs to prove it. He was privy to the what the Jan. 6th committee said would happen to the records.

Liz Cheney was good enough to remind us where to find all this information, Comer should pay attention.
...The conspiracy they concocted was that the January 6 Committee destroyed all of its records to harm Trump’s defenses in the federal case filed against him in Washington DC. Yes, it's as absurd as it sounds.
...
On Thursday night, Cheney tweeted, "No surprise Trump doesn’t want you to see the J6 Committee evidence. Here’s the GPO website with transcripts, documents, exhibits & our meticulously sourced 800+ page final report. Also links to our hearings. Might be a good time to watch those again."

That report doesn't contain witness testimony, and many other records, this being at the center of the GOP claim

"Liz Cheny" you mean the person who was booted out of her republican seat by an overwhelming majority

What happened on January 6 shook liberal America to its core. Legions of commentators, elected officials, and some scholars took the airwaves to declare the event worse than the 9/11 attacks—some compared it to Pearl Harbor. The hyperbole was pervasive, which led to congressional Democrats establishing a select committee to investigate the riot. It was a political circus that wasted taxpayer dollars, finding no incriminating evidence against Donald Trump. It also blithely ignored video evidence that shredded its narrative about how this was an American rendition of the ‘storming of the Bastille.’

It starts with the first sentence:

What the January 6 Committee Did With the Evidence Undercuts a Huge Dem Narrative

That's nice. Not going to give town hall the click so feel free to past the relevent evidence that you feel negates the data being sent to the DOJ and the DOJ proceeding with a criminal case against Trump. The case is currently in progress BTW.

Here is the indictment related to Jan. 6th, brought after the Jan. 6th committee turned over all the evidence they got:

10. The Defendant's conspiracy to impair, obstruct, and defeat the federal government function through dishonesty, fraud, and deceit included the following manner and means: a. The Defendant and co-conspirators used knowingly false claims of election fraud to get state legislators and election officials to subvert the legitimate election results and change electoral votes for the Defendant's opponent, Joseph R. Biden, Jr., to electoral votes for the Defendant. That is, on the pretext of baseless fraud claims, the Defendant pushed officials in certain states to ignore the popular vote; disenfranchise millions of voters; dismiss legitimate electors; and ultimately, cause the ascertainment of and voting by illegitimate electors in favor of the Defendant. b. The Defendant and co-conspirators organized fraudulent slates of electors in seven targeted states (Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin), attempting to mimic the procedures that the legitimate electors were supposed to follow under the Constitution and other federal and state laws. This included causing the fraudulent electors to meet on the day appointed by federal law on which legitimate electors were to gather and cast their votes; cast fraudulent votes for the Defendant; and sign certificates falsely representing that they were legitimate electors. Some fraudulent electors were tricked into participating based on the understanding that their votes would be used only if the Defendant succeeded in outcome-determinative lawsuits within their state, which the Defendant never did. The Defendant and co-conspirators then caused these fraudulent electors to transmit their false certificates to the -5 - Case 1:23-cr-00257-TSC Document 1 Filed 08/01/23 Page 6 of 45 Vice President and other government officials to be counted at the certification proceeding on January 6.......
11. The Defendant, his co-conspirators, and their agents made knowingly false claims that there had been outcome-determinative fraud in the 2020 presidential election. These prolific - 6 - Case 1:23-cr-00257-TSC Document 1 Filed 08/01/23 Page 7 of 45 lies about election fraud included dozens of specific claims that there had been substantial fraud in certain states, such as that large numbers of dead, non-resident, non-citizen, or otherwise ineligible voters had cast ballots, or that voting machines had changed votes for the Defendant to votes for Biden. These claims were false, and the Defendant knew that they were false.
a. The Defendant's Vice President—who personally stood to gain by remaining in office as part of the Defendant's ticket and whom the Defendant asked to study fraud allegations—told the Defendant that he had seen no evidence of outcome-determinative fraud. b. The senior leaders of the Justice Department—appointed by the Defendant and responsible for investigating credible allegations of election crimes— told the Defendant on multiple occasions that various allegations of fraud were unsupported. c. The Director of National Intelligence—the Defendant's principal advisor on intelligence matters related to national security—disabused the Defendant of the notion that the Intelligence Community's findings regarding foreign interference would change the outcome of the election. d. The Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency ("CISA")—whose existence the Defendant signed into law to protect the nation's cybersecurity infrastructure from attack—joined an official multi-agency statement that there was no evidence any voting system had been compromised and that declared the 2020 election "the most secure in American history." Days later, after the CISA Director—whom the Defendant had appointed—announced publicly that election security experts were in agreement that claims of computer-based election fraud were unsubstantiated, the Defendant fired him. e. Senior White House attorneys—selected by the Defendant to provide him candid advice—informed

the Defendant that there was no evidence of outcome-determinative election fraud, and told him that his presidency would end on Inauguration Day in 2021.

Do you have any thoughts on this quote?
You agree with it so wholeheartedly that you cannot add to it?
I’m pretty sure that Jack Smith used a fair amount of material from the January 6th committee in his (eventual) indictments against President Trump, so that’s demonstrably wrong, right there.
Makes me think, “what else might this op-ed be ‘wrong about’!?”

Mr Mccarthy should have nominated rational republicans for the January 6th committee instead of the two Jims from Indiana and Ohio. Mccarthy had zero power in November or December to demand anything from the committee. If you want competent leadership in the republican party y'all will need to find better candidates for whom to vote. Voters are responsible for holding their politicians accountable at the ballot box. Or keep reelecting immaturity and incompetence. I tell the folks at breitbart the same thing a few times a week. An emotional motley crew they are.
McCarthy should have banned all Democrats from participating on committees so the Democrats never pull such a stunt again. Putting all never-Trumps on a committee investigating Trump is Soviet style politics.
