• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I take meds to stay stabile because of my borderline and DID, and it takes away your hunger feelings; I've lost weight which I wanted but many say I shouldn't loose more weight. When I feel hungry it's okay to eat I won't diet or not eat or something, it's just that because of the meds it's so hard to cook for myself and get enough calories inside.
I try to make an agreement with myself that I will cook once in tweo days:thumbsup:that's a start. Even though I'm not hungry. But ouch it's so hard to stay on weight when you're not hungry.

But when I am, really I do eat, this morning I took a cheeseburger and chicknuggets at the BK:thumbsup: can't say I'm not getting my colhydrates in.

Sorry if my English is a bit off. I'm Dutch and English is my second language

Anyone with tips for me to stay healthy and on the weight I am now.

My understanding is that you are taking medications for your DID and borderline personality disorder, and these medications are reducing your appetite, and reducing your desire to eat, to the extent that you have lost weight. If this is what you mean, then please do not do what Steelerbred has suggested. The diet that she is recommending is designed mostly for people who are overweight and trying to lose weight; it provides the same basic amount of energy and nutrients as a carbohydrate-rich diet, but it makes people feel a lot fuller for longer. What you need instead, I think, is a diet richer in processed carbohydrates - these will provide you more energy, which means it will be easier to keep your weight steady (you might even regain some of the weight you lost), and they also cause you to become hungrier quicker, meaning that you'll feel like eating more.

Of course, a diet rich in refined carbohydrates like white bread, potatoes, and white rice is optimal only in the short term, while you are taking these medications. On that note, I would suggest going back to your psychiatrist, therapist, or whoever prescribes these, and ask to try other options, because I would think that most people would think this side effect profile unacceptable. But going back to the diet, there is considerable evidence that long-term, a diet high in refined carbohydrates increases risk of colon cancer. But given your situation, I think in the short term it would be worth it to stop yourself dying from anorexia.

And considering you're Dutch, your English is really good :)

For short term use, if you need to feel hungry, carbs will definitely help with that. However, you will have to eat more carbs to get enough calories. So, in a sense, I find this method self-defeating and ultimately, not the best lifestyle for many people.

If calories are important, eat more fat. If frequency of eating is important, eat more carbs. Or, you could mix the two and see how that goes.

Good luck! :)

Hello everyone, I would just like to offer a friendly reminder to please keep in mind the following recovery rules:

Recovery is a place for Christian peer support and advice, not as a substitute for professional care...Therefore these things are considered off topic and will not be allowed in the Recovery forums.

  • Promoting yourself as an expert
  • Diagnosing anyone's symptoms
  • Offering treatment of any kind to other members
Finally, as general advice, please do not change major parts of your diet, or eat/drink anything that may directly/indirectly interfere with your medications, unless it is discussed with your physician beforehand.

Thanks! ~Recovery Staff
