And as Europe passes through the phases and reaps the results of allowing a large population of Muslims into their culture, clear protections in our country will have the popularity they need. This is the great thing about change happening outside your sphere of influence. It is sort of like "bench testing" a scenario before you implement it. Europe is our "bench test", but "canary in the coal mine" sums it up better. Solutions will become (are becoming) obvious.

It doesn't look to me like the laws are creating much of a difference in most states.

So let's let all the people -- not just you -- voice their opinions and let the majority -- again, not just you -- decide what is or isn't overreaching.

That depends on your meaning. I decide for myself, independently of others, (even if it is based on others views) what my own beliefs, and thusly opinion will be. So I do decide what I view as overreaching for myself, and I can vote on issues concerning what I view as overreaching regardless of others opinions. In that sense, if enough like-minded individuals have the same point of view and vote, the majority will take the day. So if I have enough backing aligned with my own opinion, I can very realistically decide what is or is not overreaching at the polls even tho others may have an opinion to the contrary.

Having read the Quran and other "stuff" from Muhammad, I do not see islam as a religion. It is a political system with a thin coating of religion giving the political side more power. It is a theocracy that is utterly incompatible with the constitution of the U.S. and, apparently, not all that compatible with European culture.

Frankly, I believe the US should declare war on that particular "government" and proceed accordingly and should have done so on 9/12/2001. But not to worry. Europe is our canary in the coal mine. We'll be fine in the end.

I think every book, every philosophy really has different interpretations. I believe the version of "Islam" you fear is an extremist philosophy that takes liberties with Muhammad's writings outside of the Quran. 9/10 Muslims in the rest of the world who follow the Quran only, consider a peaceful life as sacred, seek peace, and coexistence with others.

The terrorists have done their job well. They have forced people to think in a way that says "either you are with us or against us as Muslims." Most Muslims in the world don't see it that way, especially in the United States. I would bet everything I own that 99.9% of American Muslims are completely harmless and hate terrorism just as much, if not more that the average American. Sometimes more because they make it hard for peace loving Muslims. Most are capitalists, want their kids to go to college, and want their daughters to have rights.

It makes me sad when I see people put an entire group of people in one category. They may miss out on a new friend that could have been a great companion. My fear is that as Conservative America gains more and more power, feeding on the fears of the people, things like smart gun control will become less and less possible. More and more guns may become available to more people with less restrictions on type, size, and ammunition. As people get more and more afraid and more and more fed up with immigrants, Muslims, and minorities taking away their jobs, and taking their tax money, we will have more and more mass shootings.

That's really not the case. We are talking about "core teachings" of islam here, not some peripheral stuff. And I'm not against "people". Keep in mind that thes "terrorists" get their marching orders directly from the Quran and Hadith. No other religion on the planet gives excuse for such behavior. Islam promotes it. Clearly.

And a main part of this is in what many say about "Christianity". There are a LOT of "Cristians" in the world that, if you asked them what a Christian was, would say, "Well...I try to be a good person." And the same is true of a lot of muslims, Hindus, etc. i.e. the "muslims" you have to worry about are the ones that really, REALLY take it seriously. The "sort of" Muslims are no more dangerous than the "sort of" Christians.

We are a democracy. Just because an individual views arent upheld doesn't mean the system is flawed. It simply means they lost the vote.

As for special interest groups. No President has done more to eliminate them, impose term limits, and even limits on Lobbyists. That is part of draining the swamp.
