  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm eventually going to sell my house and have not contacted any realtor. All of a sudden I get some very local ads directed at me while I browse as if someone were reading my mind.

I think I know who the culprit was and it wasn't from browsing. I called a local waste disposal company which supplies large bins to dump the thirty plus years of junk that got added in the house. Somehow they connected the dots.

Is this a good thing?

Hi norbert,

The internet is now being used extensively by companies as an advertising tool. I search for some tool or part and for the next 3 days I'll bet pop up ads from companies that sell such things or have any kind of link to people who have been looking for such things. Unless you searched for the bin company online, I doubt that they personally turned over your information to other businesses, but they could have.

Is it good or bad, well, it's just a method of finding prospective customers.

God bless,
In Christ, ted

You probably searched something moving related without even remembering.

Is it good? Probably not. But its an inevitable outcome of our precious free market.

Interesting. After giving my local bank my work phone number for contact information, I suddenly received a catalog in the mail very specifically related to my job... There's a data leak somewhere.

It's not a leak, it's a carefully designed information channel.

When I pay for something with a debit/credit card I get internet and mailed ads for the products I purchased. When I look something up on my phone, I get ads about similar products. This has been going on for years and is a price to pay for convenience and using technology. The only thing I can’t figure out is why I get all these ads for Viagra…

I read something earlier today, that because a lady switched from scented to unscented bath items the internet knew she began sending her adds for such. And if I recall correctly that is how her father found out... those adds, and he knew she was pregnant before she did, because, as I recall, women make subconscious decisions like the scented/unscented one when they are pregnant so she didn't even know that she really was pregnant. It's actually a bit creepy what they know.

Maybe someone will look it up and correct me if I'm wrong, as I barely remember the details and have no link.

I doubt if any human person knows anything about it. It's all done by AI these days.

I’m assuming this is with a cell phone? Turn it off. We are constantly being listened to and then those ads will pop up on your phone. Facebook is the worst for spying. If you have that app, dump it.
Not a cell phone, it was while I was browsing YouTube for some political commentary.
