The shadows, as they pertain to God's plan for the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, are very important to understand because they teach us God's plan and timeline. Many of today's churches have done away with the shadows thinking that they have no value for us today. The truth of the matter is this. We don't have to literally perform all the ceremonial acts but we must understand what they mean and what they represent or we will be in danger of being led astray from truth. This is what has happened in today's mainline church.

Let me give you just one example.

Just about all mainline churches teach and believe that Jesus died on Friday and resurrected on Sunday when Jesus Himself said He would be three days and three nights in the tomb. Friday night to Sunday morning is not three days and three nights. Because of this they have a whole system of beliefs that are wrong. In order to understand the details of crucifixion week we must understand the shadows that teach us. We find this in Leviticus 23, listen.

Leviticus 23:5-7 On the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight is the Lord's Passover. And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread to the Lord; seven days you must eat unleavened bread. On the first day you shall have a sacred assembly, it shall be a sabbath day.

The first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread was a Sabbath and because it only came once a year it was a high Sabbath.

John 19:31 The Jews, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the Sabbath day, (for that Sabbath day was a high day,).

Mary bought spices on Friday, which was the day after the high Sabbath. She prepared the spices all day Friday and then rested on the seventh day Sabbath, which is Saturday. Listen. Notice how she bought spices after the Sabbath had passed and then she rested on the Sabbath. This is because there were two Sabbaths that week.

Mark 16:1 When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

Luke 23:56 They returned, and prepared the spices and ointments; and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment.

The Passover began on Tuesday at sunset, this is when Jesus gave the bread and the wine as the Lord's supper. Judas betrays Jesus Tuesday night. Wednesday Jesus is crucified and is placed in the tomb at evening. It is now Thursday, which begins the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread. This day was a high Sabbath. The high Sabbath ended Friday morning at sunrise, Mary then buys the spices and prepares them all day Friday, then she rests on the Sabbath, which is Saturday. She goes to the tomb at sunrise Sabbath morning and Jesus is gone because it is now the third day.

Mary went to the tomb at sunrise on Sabbath morning, not Sunday morning. Listen.

Mark 16:2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulcher at the rising of the sun.

These four words, "day of the week" is the Strong's number g4521 and is actually one word in the Greek and it's the word, Sabbath. The verse should read like this. "Very early in the morning on the first Sabbath". Why was it called the first Sabbath? Because they were counting the Sabbaths that followed the high Sabbath. According to Lev. they had to count seven Sabbaths. Listen.

Leviticus 23:15-16 And you shall count for yourselves from the day after the high Sabbath,...seven Sabbaths shall be completed. Count fifty days to the day after the seventh Sabbath.

This is why it was on the first Sabbath, not the first day of the week, that Mary went to the tomb. Notice how the Sabbaths were counted.

Luke 6:1 It came to pass on the second Sabbath after the first...

The early church never gathered on Sunday nor does the Bible ever call Sunday the Lord's day. So how did we go from keeping the seventh day holy to honoring the first day?

Sunday observance has its origin with the sun god of Babylon and has replaced God's seventh day Sabbath. Sunday is known by sun worshipers as the, Venerable Day of the Sun.

Worshiping the sun is nothing new to God's people. Even in ancient times the people of God were being led astray by sun worship.

Ezekiel 8:15-16 Then the Lord said to me, Turn and you will see a great abomination. He brought me into the Lord's house and there were about twenty-five men with their faces toward the east and they were worshiping the sun.

So who changed the Sabbath day from the seventh day to the first day?

"Sunday is our mark of authority...The church is above the Bible, and this transference of sabbath observance is proof of that fact." The Catholic Record, London, Ontario, September 1, 1923.

Question - Which is the Sabbath day?
Answer - Saturday is the Sabbath day.
Question - Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
Answer - We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church, in the Council of Laodicea (A.D. 364), transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday. The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, p. 50, 3rd ed.

Jesus never once talked about Sunday. Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath, which makes Saturday the Lord's day, not Sunday.

Join with me as we remember to keep the seventh day holy because we love God and desire to keep His commandments.

Let's not forget how Mary bought the spices after the Sabbath had ended and then she finished preparing the spices she bought after the Sabbath in order to rest on the Sabbath that was drawing near. Jesus did not die on Friday. If you believe He did then you have a whole string of wrong beliefs which will lead you down the wrong road. You might even find that you have been putting up with following another Jesus a different spirit and a different Gospel.

1 Corinthians 11: 4 For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!

If you showed up on Friday during the crucifixion week you would have missed it.

Well; it is hard to tell exactly what you are attacking here, you have several topics all jumbled together.

However, this paragraph you posted is definitely wrong. The conclusion you have reached here shows that you have not properly examined the scriptures, concerning how long Christ was in the tomb. First of all; there is no scripture that tells us Jesus would be "three full days and three full nights" in the tomb. And out of the six verses that specifically mention this item, they all say the exact same thing: "on the third day."

Mat_20:19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.
Mar_9:31 For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is killed, he shall rise the third day.
Mar_10:34 And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.
Luk_18:33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.
Luk_24:7 Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.
Luk_24:46 And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:

"The third day" does not refer to a full 72 hours. It simply says that three different days were involved in the time Jesus was in the tomb. Starting Friday night, and ending on Sunday sometime, would make it the third day, but not in the sense of 3 separate 24 hour periods. If you do something on three different days of the week, it doesnt mean you did it for 72 hours straight. It means on three different days, just like in this case of how long Jesus was in the tomb. The texts all clearly say "on the third day;" not "for three whole days."

Without the shadows you could come to the wrong conclusion.

Let's take it step by step. When did Mary buy the spices? Was it before the Sabbath or after the Sabbath?

Mark 16:1 When the Sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him.

Luke 23:56 They returned, and prepared the spices and ointments; and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment.

I believe you have tried this little trick before in other threads.

When you don't have a leg to stand on, just sit this one out.
What? We are not allowed to question you? Boy, where have we seen this before? I repeat, you are not making yourself clear; and your point in this topic is not easy to grasp...(better get that anti-Adventist horse out again for that one, eh?)

Again, just answer the question.

There are definitely some shadows in what you present for this topic. You are not the boss of anyone on this forum. If you actually were here for "fellowship" and "discussion" and you really "love all Christians;" you have the strangest ways of showing it I have ever seen in my life. You dont have to like us Adventists, and you dont have to agree with us, but you also dont have to come here to our forum and make this kind of trouble and attack our beliefs as you seem to be doing. We are not here to argue with people about this kind of mumbo-jumbo. Atleast, I am not.

You're kidding, right?

Let me try just one more time.

Oh! Wait a minute now I get it. I know why you won't answer my very simple question but instead you try to discredit me and my so called evil motive, you're stuck on EGW. If you were to honestly answer my question you will have to contradict the writings of EGW and you can't. This is the danger of exalting writings that are outside the Bible.

I'll take the pressure off you by excusing you from answering my question.

Thanks and have a blessed day.

Exactly how does this question relate to the OP of this topic, and what does it have to do with "shadows;" as depicted in Scripture?

Maco,

I am not following your logic.

First of all, I have always understood the high Sabbath to mean a day when both the weekly Sabbath and a feast sabbath fall on the same Sabbath.

Second, Ellen White calls the Friday before the weekly Sabbath the Preparation Day.

Therefore, if Jesus died on the Preparation Day and was in the tomb on a high Sabbath, then He died on a Friday and was resting in the tomb over a weekly Sabbath which happened to fall on the same day as the Passover sabbath.

Mark 16:9 says that he rose early on the first day of the week, which has always been on a Sunday. This makes sense if He died on Friday because, counting Friday, Sunday is three days later just like Jesus said in Matthew 12:40, where He compared Jonah being in the belly of a great fish three days and three nights to Himself being in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.

Another interesting point is actually found in a real place where people can go visit the place where Jesus was lowered into a pit below Caiaphas' house after His night trial and waiting for the trial the next morning. If He was lowered into that pit on a Thursday night and was laying in the tomb on Friday and Saturday night, than He actually was in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights just like He predicted. Apparently, near the dungeon, the priests have a Bible open to Psalms 88 which describes very vividly how Jesus might have been feeling at the time.

the creation Sabbath, the day on which Jesus lay at rest in Joseph’s tomb, will still be a day of rest and rejoicing.
Desire of Ages 769.2.

That statement from Ellen White says very clearly to me that Jesus could not have died on a Wednesday since Matthew 16:21 says:
From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.
and Mark 16:9 says:
Now when He rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom He had cast seven demons.

Matt 26:74-75 "....and immediately a rooster crowed. Kefa (Peter) remembered what Yeshua had said, "Before the rooster crows you will disown me 3 times."

Mark 14:72 "..and immediately the rooster crowed a second time. Then Kefer (Peter) remembered what Yeshua had said to him, "before the rooster crows twice, you will disown me 3 times."

So which is it??--Peter disowns Christ 3 times before the rooster crows, or Peter disowns Christ 3 times before the rooster crows twice??----Better make sure, you stand in peril of listening to false doctrines if you don't get it right!!! Before the rooster crows, or before he crows twice---It's crucial people, your salvation depends on the right answer!!! Don't be led astray!!!:doh::doh:
