VAERS is a database for reporting adverse reactions to vaccinations (not just COVID vaccinations). Anyone can submit an incident and it's not checked for accuracy. As you might expect, anti-vaxxers flooded the system attributing vaccination adverse effects from car wrecks, lightning strikes, and in one case from becoming the Incredible Hulk. Your facts are right, but the hoax isn't what they told you it is.

The secondary hoax was pretending the vaccine database was about people dying of the virus. I'm sure you're surprised and dismayed to hear this, but those people seem to have no principles at all.
