  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yea, you could justify it that way but as bold as I may seem on here, I am not as articulate in person.

Neither am I. And I tend to remember St Peter and Moses saying the same thing when God wanted them to speak.

:)

Im only half serious, by the way...but it is possible to ask questions that might get them to think without preaching to them...

Or having them call the police on me. If the time presents itself, I will open my mouth, and hopefully it will sound good.

The thing that also worries me is last summer a new non denominational church came together and had no church building so they were renting out the theater on sun mornings by my house that is showing this movie, I have no idea if they are still there but if they are, they will be all over the place I imagine.

Go and you tell them what it means!;)

Are you saying evangelical fundamental Christians do not know the meaning of the Gospels?

I am sure when they gave you the flyer they were unaware that you belonged to a Church already. We are not all bad guys you know....

If this movie helps the fundies grow closer to God, then that's great!
Anytime people have their faith refreshed, they seek further understanding.
The Catholic Church can only grow from this :)
Well said!! I think this movie can actually help denominations grow closer together. Help us focus on the lost instead of each other and our doctrinal differences.

PEACE IN CHRIST!!

Isaiah, take that to Church! I need a witness my friend! (sorry for the southern talk)
That is the stance of our Church. I think most protestant churches are excited about this movie! We all belong to the body of Christ...don't let the few spoil your view on the majority of Protestants!

God Bless!!

PEACE IN CHRIST!!

I'm a bit worried about going. My friend invited me, and I agreed to go. Only then did she tell me that her church had bought a bunch of tickets from the theater and we would actually be going with them. Her church is a very Fundamentalist church, very scary, I don't like being around them.

I need to wear a Mary pin and my crucifix. :p Just to create controversy. ;)

The only thing is, I don't want them to ruin the movie by standing up and shouting and everything else during it; you know? That would really make me mad.

Should I still go with them (as my dad says, at least this way I don't have to pay for the ticket and I don't have to hang out with them afterward)? I suppose they'd be there no matter what showing I went to; right?

Maybe you guys should define "fundamentalist" for me. I think we have different terms going on. I consider myself a fundamentalist, but I am not a 'bad guy' I won't be jumping up or shouting during the movie (how rude), nor would I (or my church) condemn, bash, or try to change your denomination. Wear your pin and your crucifix...We are one body in Christ, one body with different functions....

PEACE IN CHRIST!!!!

I wasn't going to add to the thread, but I just can't help myself.
I get the impression that very few respondents to this thread have actually been to a non-Catholic church service.
You speak of them in a condescending tone and ridicule them for their honest, faithful and passionate love for Christ. I think this is very sad.
Personally I attend many churches and believe that Christ is everywhere and not aligned to any one group of worshipers, but to all. No matter where I attend, it doesn't shake my faith, change my view of God, Christ or his message. God is not an institution he is God.
If everyone agrees that we are all Christians, they why are some people so afraid to attend a Church which is not their regular one. Christ is the same. To think and speak with division, is simply to perpetuate the "them and us" close-minded mentality.
I believe that Jesus' message is inculsive, no elitist.

Bless Ya
Col :) <><

That sounds wonderful Col, but the truth is, as Catholics we are often forced to be on the defensive. It's not unusual for us to be considered non-Christian, idol-worshippers and even pagans. My sister attends a church that does not think I'm saved because I'm Catholic, since we believe a "false gospel". Her children told me Catholic is "bad" because they worship Mary. How would you feel if that was how you were treated by others on a regular basis? My hope is that there are anti-Catholic Christians and their churches who will see this film and re-think their views. Considering that it was made by a Catholic starring a Catholic Jesus, maybe they'll in turn wonder if they've been wrong all along about their feelings toward the Catholic fatih. Afterall, if Catholics can make such a powerful movie about the crucifixtion that turns peoples hearts toward God and His salvation, just maybe those folks are actually Christians. Many are aware that during the filming, there were miracles, unexplained phenomenon, and coversions of atheists and muslims. Wow! I pray:prayer: this film brings Christians together who otherwise were at odds.
