This afternoon I found a door flyer, inviting me to see the Passion and asking me to join this fundamentalist Church in my neighborhood after I do so they can discuss what the movie means.

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think its good that they want to bring souls to Christ but you know what they are going to be having these people believe. I hope the paln is not to counter the Catholic message.

I predicted this a couple months ago. I saw it coming and I'm worried that poorly catechised Catholics who have an emotional experience (and who won't) will be "invited" to a fundamentalist or evangelical church and led away. This is why WE must do our part to evangelize those we come in contact with especially in our own churches.

Clips barely give an impression of the entirety of a movie. (
Don't get me started on movies. I won't stop. Can you spell 'professionally deformed'? ) In theory this movie could have Christ breaking all ten commandments in the scenes you haven't seen. I know this isn't the case, I also know of the vatican reactions etc. I just... would like all to be cautious to recommend a movie so strongly and predetermine what your feelings will be about it or how it will change your life, before you have even seen it.

Ah... but can you put them into proper context without having seen the whole? The direct comments are only aimed at the scenes you have seen, but of course the impression you get is something you apply to the whole movie and therefor you're supporting the movie and telling everyone to go. You could be supporting a movie that -in theory- has Jesus smoking pot in a scene that you haven't seen.

I have my tickets for 12:30 PM today.
I don't think I'm up for going into their church and doing that. I Think after all it is their church, I wouldn't like it if someone walked off the streets into my church and began to tell us how wrong we are. I wouldn't do something like that out of respect but if they come to my door knocking on it, which I am sure they will, they do anyway, I'll let them know. I'm thinking I should get this huge Mary staute and block my door with it.
