Excuse me, He really does provide. A few months ago I was on here talking about how my children's dad had just died in an accident, and I was asking for prayer for the kids and such. I also mentioned that as a result of his death, I lost $650/month from his military retirement on a budget of ours that was already quite tight. I didn't know how we were going to manage.

Someone, I THINK it was Chaz, but not 100% on that, encouraged me by saying that he has been in situations where there wasn't enough money, but that the Lord made it somehow stretch so that everything was covered.

That has been the case with us. I do get tired of living so tight, everything is always so close to falling apart financially (at least in my mind), but yet it hasn't. Bills are always paid, we always have food.....so I just wanted to give that testimoney and praise Him for it. He is so good to us, and we are so undeserving of His generous and gracious everlasting mercy, forgiveness, and provision.

Thank you, Lord.

Just want to add my AMEN to that. Long story, short version...35K/yr pay loss. Managed to keep the house and the lights on. God opened doors then for us to get back to where we were. He is GOOD!!!!

Great, that's awesome!

I hope this works for us... we were going to have financial aid but suddenly we found out that my husband can't get his PELL grant, and we owe $300 to the business office, we'll be trying to live on less than $700 a month, rent and utilities taking up $500 of that... four kitties that are our children, three of which need fixed soon... I have been unemployed for four years though I have been looking steadily, my husband is disabled...

That is awesome!

God provided for us on a much smaller scale coming into our marriage. We wanted a washing machine (a dryer would have been nice too), a dining room table and chairs, a bookcase, an electric frying pan, and a microwave. Within several weeks of our wedding, different people actually came to our door and said, for instance, "You don't need a bookcase do you? I've got one sitting at home that I'd like to get rid of, if you want to take it off my hands" and "Do you need a microwave? My parents are selling their holiday home and have one to give away." We got everything we'd prayed for (and He threw in a dryer, too!)

Thanks for the encouragement.

I've spent about 5 years in graduate school, and we live in an expensive city, now. But I believe the Lord sent us here.

When I started the masters degree, I was so tired. My wife and I spent way too much time on the dishes. Our apartment was small, but I figured we could roll a portable washing machine over by the sink, and then in front of the door if we needed to. So I prayed for one. I went looking for yard sales in our apartment complex, and there was some abandoned furniture on a second floor-- and a washing machine. The neighbor said that a family had abandoned it when they went overseas. I asked the building manager about it and they said I could have it. With a big piece of cardboard, I slid that thing down the stairs and rolled it to my apartment. I had about 10 feet of grass to get it over, and a passerby offered to help. That thing was a real blessing.

Then, before we packed our bags to come here-- I knew that everything, even shoes, was more expensive here, and our bags were way too full, so I prayed for a pair of free or super cheap brand knew thrift store athletic shoes. The sole of the ones I was wearing cracked in such a way that it was bad for my ankles to wear them.

We'd been here a few days. One day we weren't going apartment shopping, so I decided to go out and look for those shoes I prayed for. There was a thrift store next to the vacation condo we were renting, which was supposed to be closed that day. It was open. They had a box of stuff right outside the door with some bright new-looking shoes on top. I saw them. I thought-- I bet those are my 10 and half shoes I asked God for. Sure enough, I got up to them, opened the tongue up, and they were 10 and a halfs.

I went in to ask the price. In this town, used stuff sells for a lot. It's kind of like the third world in that way. :) She said normally they were $14, but that day, she was having a sale-- all shoes $2. She told me that the man who'd brought them in had brought another pair that had an 80 something dollar price tag on them, but they sold already. He'd ran in them and didn't like them. I think the Lord was kind not to provide both pairs of shoes because I probably would have bought them and would have had to lug those shoes with my luggage from condo to condo until we found our apartment.

So I got a brand new pair of New Balance shoes in answer to pray.

One year, some friends from overseas dropped by here, and everyone was too busy to meet, but they dropped off a gift of $1000 dollar gift since we were having a new baby. We'd known them from a cell group.

My wife has been asking me and praying for an I-Pad. My answer was I could get that for her when I started working. We helped some friends move, and they paid for her I-pad so she could keep in touch with the wife through Facetime. Anyway, God is good about answering prayer.

I want to agree that God always provides - He provided a newer\gently used washer and dryer last yr just weeks before our baby was due - for free! He provided me with a newer van that my grandparents purchased up front so I wouldnt have to finance it. 25% of my husbands pay goes to his ex for his 2 older kids and since the ex moved our gas bill has doubled but we havent been without food yet or unable to pay our bills!

You asked for a luxury, and I am just wanting money to cover my electricity bill, which is three months behind, We're only eating one meal a day so we can try to pay that thing off. God hasn't come through for us yet.

This has been my experience as well. The story to consider is that of the jar of oil, as found in either 1 Kings 17:16 or 2 Kings 4:2.

During times of hardship the Lord will provide just enough to keep us faithful to him, without ever providing great riches. When those times of hardship pass, as they will pass eventually, then we have memories of his faithfulness to carry us through the much greater spiritual challenge of affluence.

The Lord has been faithful to me through more than ten years of hardship, which are just beginning to get easier. I regard myself now as very, very rich, which I am in comparison with former years. In comparison with the world around I am very low income, but who needs to compare with the world? What matters is that I have sufficient oil and sufficient flour for today, and a Lord to provide for tomorrow.

Dori is such a encourager!!

I know that Dori has had a very rough year in many ways yet when tested she is thankful and content.

You just have to love a sister like Dori!

1 Thessalonians 5:18
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Philippians 4:11
Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

Malachi 3:10
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

It as my wife that asked for it. She wanted it to read some materials for a ministry training we are going through at church, and the Lord answered.

Keep praying, and keep believing God.

I've been in grad school for five years working part-time and sometimes short term full-time jobs. I know what it is like not to have much. The Lord has provided plenty of food for us.

I'll pray for you about the electric bill.
