It appears that Hamas has successfully destroyed Gaza in exchange for its rocket assault on Israel. Now what?

One never sees the peaceful Gaza scenario these days - as was there prior to Hamas' unprovoked assault on Israel at the start of the Hamas' war against its neighbor -- Hamas' great plans for Gaza. As if getting Israel to attack Gaza was going to be such a great outcome for Gaza.

"The Palestinian militant group Hamas launched an unprecedented assault on Israel on 7 October, with hundreds of gunmen infiltrating communities near the Gaza Strip.

About 1,200 people were killed, while the Israeli military says more than 200 soldiers and civilians, including women and children, were taken to Gaza as hostages."

Oct 6 - no state of war existed and Israel did not seem to be too concerned with the idea that Hamas terrorists would launch 2500 missiles into Israel and then rush across the board to take women and children hostages back to Gaza.

The massive tunnel network in Gaza shows the intent to let all the citizens "above ground" suffer the brunt of any efforts to rescue hostages or rid the place of terrorists.

To many people Hamas looks like 'evil' with a capital "E".

So now let's consider all 'the good Hamas has done for Gaza" in its scheme to totally ruin the place.

hmmmm... can't think of one good outcome for Gaza in this "brilliant" plan by Hamas.

So given their F minus result on their last initiative - what were they thinking should happen "now" to make Gaza an even better place to live. Oh wait maybe Hamas could simple leave the ruins of Gaza and go back to Iran/Syria etc. It is king of interesting that the neighboring countries don't want Hamas and all the Gaza citizens -- to go there.

So then it is really puzzling to see how they get any support at all

Unfortunately, the Palestinians living in Gaza strip probably looked at Hamas as the "lesser evil"......and unless Israel helps them rebuild, the Palestinians will continue to feel that way.

It is odd that they don't say that about "Hamas helping them to..." something. Maybe "Hamas helping them to rebuild" since they are actually hosting Hamas to start with. How is it that they expect the nation that they attacked to be responsible for helping them rebuild instead of the geniuses that talked Gaza into attacking Israel??

That place is very confusing to me.

"They" (the Palestinian people of Gaza) didn't attack Israel. Hamas did.

It is very confusing. They let Hamas -the lesser evil in their eyes - take control of Gaza....Hamas attacks Israel.....Israel destroys Gaza. I don't understand it, either. However, if Hamas gets wiped out in Gaza, I'd like to see the Israeli government at least offer to help the Palestinians rebuild.....much like the U.S. did in Germany and Japan.

But the Palestinians did vote Hamas into power by a landslide election. This goes back to the concept of responsible voting vs irresponsible voting and the Palestinians are reaping their reward for their irresponsible voting. Play stupid games win stupid prizes. We Americans are also guilty of irresponsible voting as our current leadership in the White House is worthless and do nothing good all the time.

1) That election was in 2006. The majority of people living in Gaza now were too young to even vote back then.
2) Hamas did not win in a landslide. They eeked out a 3 point victory over Fatah, and neither party got more then 45% of the vote.

So trying to say they deserved this because of an election almost 20 years ago that Hamas barely won is a bit much.

What have the Palestinians done since 2006 to make things better? They have continued their support for Hamas and now they are winning stupid prizes for their irresponsible voting in 2006. Unfortunately elections have consequences. Americans should learn from this.

Nope. It wasn't a landslide.

It was a landslide victory in terms of political seats and power. Nothing has changed. Hamas was voted into power in a fair election. Now the Palestinians are reaping their rewards for irresponsible voting. Now what can Americans learn from this? How are we doing the same mistakes as the Palestinian people? Nations rise and nations fall. How has irresponsible voting increased the chances of America's fall? Can you learn anything from the demise of Gaza? I think the lesson easily translates into an American one since so many people in America have made irresponsible voting fashionable.

If the Palestinians didn't want war then they should have rose up and stopped Hamas from attacking Israel.
Israel has every right to defend itself just as we did after Pearl Harbor and 9/11.

I don't think Hamas really cares about the people of Gaza. They were merely the fodder necessary to help turn world opinion against Israel if they responded. Also their leaders seem to feel it necessary to keep proving they are strong men, that won't be pushed around. So an occasional flailing away at perceived enemies, bolsters their standing. I really don't blame the people of Gaza voting them into power years ago, they had no way of knowing what the consequences would be. I'm sure most of them just want to get on with normal lives and vote without perfect knowledge just like everyone else.

Where did I say it didn't have that right? I didn't. I believe they have a right to defend themselves; however, I think cooler heads need to prevail at this point.

Calm down and don't get your panties in a wad. Good grief. I already know by your tone that you're just itchin' for a far-right government to be elected here in 2024.

And no....I'm not a liberal....I'm not a democrat.....but I'm not a man who believes our nation needs to be governed by the far-right.

As others have pointed out, Hamas didn't win in a landslide. It's also important to know that Hamas' complete control of Gaza came by force.

Hamas only received 44.45% of the vote in 2006, but it gave them a majority of 74 seats in the 132 seat Palestinian Legislative Council at that time. Less than 15% of Gazans alive today voted for Hamas. In 2007, Hamas violently took control of Gaza.

Hamas gunmen seized military control of the Gaza Strip on Thursday, executing Fatah rivals and provoking the collapse of their power-sharing Palestinian Authority government.

As Fatah’s last security command centers fell after four days of fighting, Hamas military men in black masks moved unchallenged across Gaza City, hunting down foes, blowing up homes and dragging the body of a top Fatah militant through the streets.

Firing mortars, grenade launchers and automatic weapons, Hamas fighters captured the Gaza City headquarters of the Preventive Security, Intelligence and National Security agencies Thursday afternoon, and executed some of their captives. The Presidential Guard compound fell late in the evening. All were controlled by Fatah.

Earlier in the day, Hamas overran the main Fatah compound in the southern city of Rafah, giving it full control of the border with Egypt, a source of the smuggled weapons that have expanded the movement’s arsenal in recent months.

Hamas fighters overran the headquarters amid mortar rounds and gunfire. They raised green Hamas flags over the shattered two-story compound, kneeled to the ground in prayer and marched handcuffed Fatah gunmen into the streets, some shirtless or in their underwear.

If the Palestinians didn't want war then they should have rose up and stopped Hamas from attacking Israel.
Palestinians in Gaza live in an environment where turning against Hamas could pose significant risks to their lives, livelihoods, and families. They allow Hamas to operate in Gaza mostly because they are afraid that if they refuse, they will be its next victims. Another reason Hamas goes unopposed is because most Palestinians in Gaza are too busy struggling to survive from day to day to concern themselves with Hamas.

This is because the only group supporting the Palestinians has been Hamas.

Israel has forced 2 million Palestinians into Gaza, which is only 25 miles long and 7 miles wide. Israel controls
the water supply and ports, so yes, tunnels were built to get food and medical supplies in.

Hamas was wrong on October 7th, but the Palestinian Kettle was about to boil over anyway, and Israel is
the flame heating up the kettle.

On the other hand there was the shocking footage of the teenage Israeli girl who was kidnapped from the music festival, raped to death then her naked body dragged round Gaza while the crowds (including women and children) cheered and jeered. This did a lot to expose the myth of the poor Palestinian people caught up in the middle of it. God Bless You :)

Amen! Reminds me of the word of God as spoken by the prophet Obadiah:

Obadiah 1:17 But on Mount Zion will be deliverance;
it will be holy,
and Jacob will possess his inheritance.
18 Jacob will be a fire
and Joseph a flame;
Esau will be stubble,
and they will set him on fire and destroy him.
There will be no survivors
from Esau.”
The Lord has spoken.
19 People from the Negev will occupy
the mountains of Esau,
and people from the foothills will possess
the land of the Philistines.
They will occupy the fields of Ephraim and Samaria,
and Benjamin will possess Gilead.

Apart from the Palestinians filming their crime and it being broadcast on global media. Too graphic to post here, find it for yourself.
Never happened. It doesn't exist.

People should be sure of what they accuse people of especially when they are using it to support the mass murder of babies and children. You have provided no evidence because there is no evidence - not because it is too graphic to post here.
