  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sorry, I feel like this is a kind of minor question - but who are the people being described, are these the Egyptians? And is this a prophecy that was already fulfilled?

Would you quote the subject/ topic/ Scripture along with its context please? Thank you.

HI this is a part of scripture that was talking about Ethiopia and was pertaining to events of that day when Ethiopia sent delegations to try to form a confederacy with Israel against Syria. This section of Isaiah does have a lot of future prophecy sandwiched around it as chapter 17 and 19 have a lot of future stuff in them.

"At that time gifts will be brought to the LORD Almighty from a people tall and smooth-skinned, from a people feared far and wide, an aggressive nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by rivers- the gifts will be brought to Mount Zion, the place of the Name of the LORD Almighty."

Thank you so much!! I love digging into the historical context of such things, but was reading the scripture on my phone app at the time and couldn't find anything about it in the blurbs of my study bible.

Thank you.
Here's another translation just now found online:

Common English Bible

Isaiah 18:7 (CEB) At that time, gifts will be brought to the LORD of heavenly forces from a tall and clean-shaven people and from a people feared near and far, a nation barbaric and oppressive, whose land the rivers divide, to the place of the name of the LORD of heavenly forces, to Mount Zion.

Isaiah 18:7 At that time gifts will be brought to the LORD of Hosts--from a people tall and smooth-skinned, from a people widely feared, from a powerful nation of strange speech, whose land is divided by rivers--to Mount Zion, the place of the Name of the LORD of Hosts.

Matthew Henry Commentary
18:1-7 God's care for his people; and the increase of the church. - This chapter is one of the most obscure in Scripture, though more of it probably was understood by those for whose use it was first intended, than by us now.... ... ...
