Just as a side comment, I find it curious that there is a peculiar conflation between angel (άγγελος) and pastor
(πάστορας) in Baptist theology, but only in this passage. In all other New Testaments usages of άγγελος Baptists seem quite content to accept the translation as being angel, not pastor.

Do you know how this odd conflation came about?

I don't know what church doctrine you are looking for.

It is doctrine that must conform to Scripture. Scripture doesn't have to conform to doctrine.

I am not "looking" for a doctrine, but just an explanation from Major about the conflation between angels and pastors in Revelation. Do you have any idea as to how one can find that in the Greek text?

Thanks!

Sorry, I meant to pose that question for Major and somehow the quotes got mixed up.

Your contribution is valuable, as usual.

No.

I do know that Angel is correctly translated as "Messenger" and that is what the Pastor is supposed to be to his church.

IN most cases in doing Bible studies we simply add in our own assumptions when we hear the word “angels”. We have a picture in our mind, and anytime we see angels in the Bible we attach that picture to what we read.

The word angel does not always mean heavenly angel.

Thank you. This argument reminds me of the Catholic argument that the brothers and sisters of Jesus Christ cannot be the biological offspring of Mary and Joseph because
αδερφια can also mean "cousins".

I don't think I was of much help to you but you are always welcome!

Yes, everyone is entitled to their opinions; HOWEVER, if one is "rightly dividing the Word of Truth" as God enjoins the saints, and brings all Scripture together (in the New Testament), they might see what God expects for His testimony in the world. I often encourage seekers to visit the sound site at biblecounsel.net to get the big picture. Let us look up always, for God cares always!
