Here is the "alleged" quote. I say alleged only because I do not have the original source and the mainstream media is not picking it up. The New York Post reports it, though most quote the Free Beacon, which seems obscure.

“It means that everyone is the same and everyone shares,” Walz said during a lesson on China’s communist system in November 1991. “The doctor and the construction worker make the same. The Chinese government and the place they work for provide housing and 14 kg or about 30 pounds of rice per month. They get food and housing.”

Walz’s remarks were reported in a 1991 article in Nebraska’s Alliance Times-Herald that focused on his work on student exchange programs in China. At the time, Walz was teaching social studies at a Nebraska high school.
So what? Doesn't the US also have a social safety net? SNAP and Social Security take care of millions. Are we Communist? Start over

China is a vast beautiful country with rainforests, deserts, timberland, and vibrant cities, not to mention beautiful beaches and islands. Anybody would be a fool to believe they should not visit such a rich cultural nation. It's just cowboy talk to say that we shouldn't visit there. We should visit any nation in the world that holds our interest. Next, these people will be telling us that we should never leave the borders of the United States. China is amazing!
Seems derogatory to cowboys. When you "cowboy up" you can live anywhere. Most probably would not support nations with tourism where there are ongoing conflicts and human rights issues. But of course those are often subjective. President Xi saying that China should be prepared to invade Taiwan by 2027 is interesting though. One has to wonder about that timeline, perhaps 2027 was meant as disinformation to keep the hardening of defenses to Taiwan down?
Just about every week there is an escalation of conflict with China, Japan or the Philippines. This week was a record number of aircraft in war games in the Taiwan strait. https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-...nese-warplanes-involved-war-games-2024-10-15/
But by all means visit any nation as the Lord leads.

Bradskii corrected my thinking on Walz's statement about equality namely because things have changed so much in China on equality since Walz said that decades ago. Yes, all nations do have mixed economies. The Chinese have every right to govern as they like, though one would hope they offer decent human rights protections for all people groups and religions.
