  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is using Marijuana a sin?

I don't smoke it. I've tried it once or twice, and honestly, it's not that great. It was calming and I got some munchies, but I'd rather down some vodka and get the giddy effect of some liquor, than smoking pot, but whatever floats your boat.

Like I said, I smoked it for about a 4-6 weeks last year, but it's hardly something I can be bothered to go out of my way to get again.

Our neighbors would light up on the stuff every so often (for a while it was like it happened at least three or four times a week), and I'd have to close my windows whenever I smelled it because I knew from not doing so once or twice that I get headaches from it. Couldn't stand it at all.

I don't see why it should be illegal when alcohol isn't, although I don't do it or have any interest in doing so. A DUI is a DUI, if someone is wasted enough to get behind the wheel it wouldn't really matter what was in their system. Medical usage is fine, IMO, but I just wonder if it's necessary for medical usage to be the actual smoked product, or whether they could distill the THC or whatever analgesic from it and distribute it in a less/non- pungent, more closely monitored variation, like they do for opiates (morphine, codeine, hydrocodone, etc.). If typical users can do that with brownies, I don't see why the pharmaceutical companies couldn't do it with a pill or liquid suspension (if it was made legal, that is).

What if it weren't illegal?

This. There's absolutely no justifiable reason for pot to remain legal, while nicotine use* manages to kill a small village every year.

*Not saying I believe cigarettes should be illegal.

No. Though I've never smoked it, it's obvious that pot is less carcinogenic and addicting than cigarettes and less intoxicating than alcohol. I haven't done a whole lot of research about the the so-called "gateway" status it has, but I'm pretty inclined to think it should be legal. Still, it is illegal in most of the US even for medical purposes. Personally, that's the biggest reason I haven't tried it; add to that the smell and the depressing "stoner culture" and its just never had any appeal for me.

Yeah, the gateway stuff is not quite as accurate as the trumpeting of some segments of the media makes it seem. The main part being that the examples they give of going from marijuana to harder drugs, when those harder drugs are often stimulants or hallucinogens, not depressants like pot or alcohol are. It would be comparable to saying you like to ride bicycles, so you have to be careful or else you'll start competing in the X-Games. It's those personalities already predisposed to risky or addictive behavior that it would act as a gateway for, not Joe Average.

Any statistics showing support for pot's gateway status are likely influenced by the fact that those who would use it leisurely without threat of more and more risk or over-indulgent use aren't really interested in breaking the law just to smoke some - so you're already dealing with a grouping that has a tendency of risky behavior. Even still, the different type of high harder drugs have may or may not appeal to every pot smoker that likes risk.

At least, that's how I see the situation.

If you are using it only for pain and the high is just a side effect and not a desired goal then it is not a sin. Marijuana is like any other pain killer exept it is not addicting (It is not physically addicing but can be mentaly like many things can be) It can get you high but so can a lot of painkillers. Getting high on purpouse is a sin. Getting high as a byproduct is just a side effect. God made marijuana and I think its stupid that people misuse it the way that they do. It is not a toy, it is medicine and I think it hurts God when people abuse his creation.

Sorry for the tangent!

I don't see anything wrong with smoking it for medical reasons. Saying that's a sin would be like saying receiving a morphine injection after being severely wounded is a sin.

I'll agree and disagree with you there, medical marijuana as much as people swear by it does seem to be handed out like candy these days. I've had friends who got medical marijuana cards for headaches and other such very easily treatable (or man up and ignore) ailments.

I was just wondering if I could get some opinions on this topic from my peers. Let me explain my situation. I suffer from chron's disease and get really bad stomach pain and back aches. I am prescribed Hydrocodone for pain but it makes me dizzy and ill. So instead of taking my pills sometimes I smoke a little marijuana. Maybe a gram or two a day nothing major. It just helps relieve my pain, and increase my appetite. I love and fear God and praise him everyday. I just want to know if my remedy is a sin in the eyes of the Lord?

No it is not. If you do not do it in moderation than that is when it would become a sin, just like eating in itself is not a sin but over eating becomes Sin. Altho if you do any other types such as Herroine and Cocaine just once, it could kill you. You would definitely need to be very careful in taking any of those types. I personally don't do drugs of any type including medicated drugs, But I don't see the Coca Plant or the Marijuana Plant as Evil. In other countries the Cocoa plant is used for energy. And you should also becareful about taking joints from others because it could be laced.

I hoped this helped you :)
Have a good one today
And thank you for your question
