  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was just wondering if I could get some opinions on this topic from my peers. Let me explain my situation. I suffer from chron's disease and get really bad stomach pain and back aches. I am prescribed Hydrocodone for pain but it makes me dizzy and ill. So instead of taking my pills sometimes I smoke a little marijuana. Maybe a gram or two a day nothing major. It just helps relieve my pain, and increase my appetite. I love and fear God and praise him everyday. I just want to know if my remedy is a sin in the eyes of the Lord?

No more than drinking alcohol is imo. I personally see no reason why it would be bad to ease your pain without massive side effects. Yeah it says don't break the law but religiously that point is moot the very second you mention the illegality of preaching Christianity in places it is illegal to.

Ephesians 5:18 - Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. (NIV)

You aren't smoking it to get high, you're using small amounts as medicine. If you're able to come to terms with doing something illegal in your country (I'm assuming it's illegal in your country) well, it's your decision. I understand side effects of drugs being worse than the illness sometimes, and you can make the argument that marijuana is only illegal because drug companies can't patent a plant, but in the end it's between you and God.

I'll raise you a Proverb:

Proverbs 31:6
6 Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts.

It's breaking the law in any case, so yes.

Just because a law is in place, does not mean the authorities actually care if you break it. If you were get behind the wheel of a car, were trafficking or operating a grow-op, or dealing, maybe. But if you're just smoking it socially in your backyard, it's a non-issue; like one person buying one counterfeit Louis Vuitton handbag or pirating a DirecTV signal. (At least here.)

On topic: if alcohol isn't a sin, neither is marijuana. If you're addicted (and I'm sure this will send out a chorus of people claiming marijuana is not; I haven't had enough experience with the drug or read enough beyond a couple of pro-Pot legislation arguments), then it's not good. Certainly, if marijuana brings someone some medical comfort, I'm not going to judge.

I'm very against marijuana for personal reasons due to my family history, growing up around it and experiencing the negative effect it has on individuals and families.

I would seek alternative medications, marijuana would be a VERY last resort, if it was like a life and death situation.

But that is my own personal choice, I can't change the choices of those around me in my immediate and extended family. Though when it comes to having my own family one day, I would not want pot around. This also applies to my boyfriend because he knows how I feel about it and wouldn't touch the stuff either out of respect for me, unless of course it really was a dire situation and there was no other known cure.

Slightly off-topic: the only real problem I have with marijuana is the stench... P-U! Smells like pungent green tea & B.O. I get tobacco smokes don't smell the greatest, but pot IMO, is ten times worse.

It's worse than cigarettes. I avoid them both like the plague.

Are you referring to the smell, or the effect? In which case, I would disagree about pot being more damaging or dangerous physically than cigarettes.

I like the smell, personally I would have described it as fruity rather than B.O.. perhaps you need to get some better marijuana. ( I remember one strain we had smelt of Tuti Fruti.) but at the risk of violating forum rules, I shall point out that I quit smoking the stuff, and am highly skeptical of the claims that it's a remedy for anything, mainly because it's getting to the point where pot is being pushed as a cure for absolutely everything.

But yeah I have a terrible sense of smell, and I also find the smell of silage, and sulfur to be really pleasant. in fact silage in particular I prefer over freshly baked bread when it comes to homey smells.

I'm wondering if this is like the broccoli thing, because honestly I'm surprised how many people here don't like the smell of marijuana. Eons before I even tried smoking it I've always found it to be quite a pleasant aroma. (couple of dens near where I grew up and it was a big export black market wise, so it was common to smell it around town.)

You sure that tuti-fruti stuff was actual pot and not shisha?

Either way, it sounds like you do have a very weird sense of smell.

Was definitely pot, wouldn't be able to name the strain though, I was never that into it, unlike a few of my college class mates, who could talk for hours on the subject.

Used a Hookah once aswell, that was a really nice evening, we had I believe strawberry tobacco stuff in it.

Either way, it sounds like you do have a very weird sense of smell.

pretty much, grew up on the industrial estate, have an incredible Immune system, but a terrible sense of smell/taste. Either way I wouldn't change it for the world, never getting sick is a really good trade off for, not noticing bad smells.

I don't smoke it. I've tried it once or twice, and honestly, it's not that great. It was calming and I got some munchies, but I'd rather down some vodka and get the giddy effect of some liquor, than smoking pot, but whatever floats your boat.

It's quite popular here, though, and you can't walk along the boardwalk or along the main streets by the beach on a given weekend without the scent assaulting your nose. Who knows? Maybe if it is students (as I suspect), they're smoking crappy pot.
