As I see it. touching yourself is not a natural function.

touching yourself is something which is taught.

It is taught by folks who have also been taught, by folks whose have indulged in the sexual experience outside of the marriage bond. Thereby becoming obsessed with the desire to gratify such, no matter the cost.

The bible advises "it is better to marry than burn" So get married if you touch would be the scriptural injunction. Marry before you violate an innocent individual. Causing trauma and distress.

touching yourself is a sin, and 'marry' would be the biblical answer.

Scripture talks of some "neighing' like the stallion, after a neighbours wife. God forbid. Perish the thought, the great Apostle would say.

Such passion has to be controlled. Well this would be the biblical answer.
touching yourself is something which is taught.

That is ridiculous, where did you get an Idea like that.

As a believer, we're supposed to be walking in and after the Spirit, not in or after the flesh. So, if masturbating is of the flesh, not in Spirit, and we're doing it... we're walking after it and not after the Spirit.

How's that glorifying God?
Eating is also of and for the flesh.

Yes that is a ridiculous idea.

Young children explore their bodies. It is the most natural thing in the world. If they don't explore their bodies, it is quite likely they have been abused. They explore to see what they have...why not and in the process they find things that feel good and yes, they touch and yes it is the most natural thing to do. As young as they are, they have sexuality. Babies are born with sexuality. Babies who nurse at the breast will touch while nursing sometimes, if naked in the summer. We grow up masturbating and then all of a sudden somebody says it's bad and we hide. No wonder it is so hard to give up. And whether or not we give up is just plain a choice because MASTURBATION IS NOT MENTIONED IN THE BIBLE NOT EVEN ONCE. Touching our bodies is not wrong. Not touching our bodies is unhealthy. That I know for a definite fact.

No, masturbation itself is not mentioned in the Bible and no, as an act it is not sin.

What is a sin is the lust issue that underlies it in many (but not all) cases.

IMO there are acceptable circumstances:
part of the physical act of love between spouses
collection of sperm for procreation

Another thing to consider, if we touch, how does that affect our spouse? Am I loving my wife as I should if I touch?

We are talking about masturbating here and I wish we would stop. Because what we, not me, are talking about here is lust. So why not start a thread on lust. No one knows what is in the mind of one who is masturbating.

There are so many different reasons for masturbating and you have covered two and think you are done. What about those living alone without a spouse. I suppose you suggest celibacy. Perhaps if they wanted celibacy they would be priests or something.

Purity maybe....that is between a person and God

This whole thing is so riduculous that it isn't funny. Please for God's sake if not mine or anybody elses, start a thread on the sinfulness of lust. There's a truth.

I'm sorry if the subject offends you, however, it can and should be discussed, to include the underlying issues.

Not to sound to harsh, but opening and participating in a thread is a choice we are all free to make. I avoid areas and threads that I find offensive or don't agree with all the time.

Hey Mont

that is good. Proper thing. Why do you think....oh, okay, the title of this thread is "Is masturbating a sin". That's better. Thank you.

I do not think ALL masturbating is a sin. Perhaps some but not ALL. So when you are talking about masturbating being a sin, would you please specify what type of masturbating you are talking about so you don't intrude on everybody and would you be so kind as to make sure that everybody does the same thing. I am reminded of the expression of throwing out the baby with the bath water.

I'm sorry, I thought I was clear when I pointed out what, IMO, were acceptible practices concering this issue as well as why it is sin on occassion.

Sorry for any confusion.

LOL....Charlie Brown says love is never having to say you are sorry.

There is no way Mont, that you can keep everybody on track here. To 99% of people here, masturbation period is wrong period. No distinctions made and the baby is thrown out with the bath water. There are so many things that are thrown here as sin, like almost to the point that breathing is a sin. So I think most people sort of have to pick and choose and have priorities. Masturbating is very low on my list of priorities.....adultery is very high on my list of priorities as a definite no do. But those are just my priorities Enough from the peanut gallery.
