• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

i believe that even if you do think the thought, things can pop up into our minds over anything. but w/us having ocd it tends to be focused on religious stuff all of the time. but if you regret it or even didn't want it but thought it anyway, i really think that's in a different world than someone who hates God and wants to hurt him w/their thoughts and that's clearly not you, you're worried about it that shows that you don't want to be like that. but to me it really souds like you were thinking about the thoughts which we all do.

I think intent matters? Am i right here? if i was imagining the mindset that would have made that thought an evil act, my intent wasnt evil? cos my intent was to absolve myself? i was just trying to determine if i had sinned?

i do hope so... does anyone agree?

i love you all for your replies btw. thank you.

Hey, supposing you had an intrusive thought. and you were trying to prove that it wasn't a sin.

and so you thought to yourself - okay, for this thought to have been a sin for real, when you actually held the thought in your mind you must have had an intent like this - and then you thought of the mindset that would have made the thought a sin when you thought it.

all this just to prove that you had not actually committed a sin...

is that a sin in itself???? because, you had simulated the intentional sin and might have even done it ureself by trying to prove that ure original thought wasnt a sin..

: (

A sinful thought, only counts as a sin if you hold on to it. The Evil One, likes to put all kinda of evil and sinful thoughts into our heads whenever God allows (nothing is outside of God's Will). If you do not entertain the thought, but rather brush it away. Then it is not a sin. If you are still unsure, then for your evening prayers, before going to bed ask God to forgive you for all your sinful/evil actions, whether in word, thought or deed. God forgives all, always.
