Is this passage from it a false prophecy? Why or Why not?

Barnabas 15:4
Give heed, children, what this meaneth; He ended in six days. He
meaneth this, that in six thousand years the Lord shall bring all
things to an end; for the day with Him signifyeth a thousand years;
and this He himself beareth me witness, saying; Behold, the day of
the Lord shall be as a thousand years.
Therefore, children, in six
days, that is in six thousand years, everything shall come to an end.
The Epistle of Barnabas (translation J.B. Lightfoot)

Well ... first the authorship of the book is in question, and it was written pretty late, compared to Apostolic writings.

As to whether it is a false prophecy, I've known quite a number of people who believe it (and probably never read the Epistle of Barnabas), and count Christ as coming around the 4000-year mark. So we don't really know yet, since depending on how you count, most think we aren't QUITE there yet, but getting close.

It's just a prophecy written by a layperson, not any more or less than what someone who is contemporary says God revealed to them, if we don't know who wrote it. It may be true, may be false. It has a good sound to it ... meaning it sounds like something God might do. But we won't know until/unless we are sure that we are past the 6000 years, or Christ returns.

I don't worry much about it.

It's an interpretation of Scripture, not a prophecy.

As it is only an interpretation of scripture, it is not a prophecy at all, whether true or false. But many of the interpretations in the so-called Epistle of Barnabas are incorrect, as are many of the interpretations in almost every other document which is of merely human origin.
