• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I don't think that a compulsion. Honestly, I always have hard times doing others thing I feel likes it makes me have difficult times control my thought. But however, I can not conclude it.
Constantly distracting myself from mind and urges by checking to see if I agree with the thoughts and to see if I still love God, is not a compulsion? I always have to say no sometimes because it gets so uncomfortable and I worry I'm going to think something bad. I hope I have OCD and this is not coming from me or Satan:pensive:

No, that's ok. It was my fault for not being clear. It's really hard for me to go shopping or watch movies... it's practically impossible.

Wow. I never heard that before. I thought because you have an obsessional theme, and intrusive thoughts, along with compulsions, it was more aligned with Pure O OCD
Correct. I got it into my head we were talking about perfectionism :(

Oh, no worries. Nobodies perfect lol. I think the original poster is probably in a spiral of self doubt now. Does it mean you don't have any form of OCD if you get below 42 in the test?

No. We all have a bit of OCD. Throwing salt over our shoulder, touching wood, even technically prayer if it is used as a neutralising behaviour.
42 is just a cut off point where in the UK we definitely offer CBT for. If I assess a person and they are sub clinical but during the assessment I find evidence to suggest treatment is indicted I would discuss with one of my more senior colleagues and take it on a case by case basis.

The OCI is not a diagnostic tool but we do use it in assessment.

Sorry, I maybe took it the wrong way when you brought up my results for the general OCD test to another and then mentioned Satan, it kind of made me feel like something was terribly wrong with me if I'm having uncontrollable urges and thoughts that aren't my own and if the implications of your answers seem to be more focused to steer me from being labeled with scrupes. Maybe I'm over analyzing.

I can understand why you could jump to that conclusion Bee, and that’s fine. I’m grateful for your honesty, and your courage is helping me and others here too.

Not sure of the quality this site provides, but have you considered their assessment and help..... Get Started

Please don't respond if you don't have OCD or don't know much about it.

I can't afford therapy so need help with this.
I can't seem to accept this is OCD.
Is it OCD if it feels like an urge to think something really bad?

I have to do a compulsion because the pressure in my head is so uncomfortable. This happened after I've heard about the unpardonable sin.

I've been seeing people with repetitive intrusive thoughts and I don't really experience this. It's just like a constant urge to think something that's killing me.
This sounds very typical of OCD. When we have OCD, we are often afraid that we don't have it and that we might actually be a terrible person after all. :) We also over-analyze, thinking that if our OCD doesn't look the same as somebody else's, then perhaps we don't have it. I'm no doctor, but I'd venture a guess that you do have it. You're not the only person I've heard who's compared themselves to other OCDers and said, "But it doesn't look like THAT OCD!"

How can you work on treating your OCD as OCD? That is, how can you work on limiting/delaying/stopping your compulsions?

I was coming back from running and I was thinking and was saying the Holy Spirit is alive but I accidentally whispered and froze on Ali like the opposite. I said to God and Jesus I meant to say the Holy Spirit is alive and good. Did I commit a sin?

No, not even close. It says Jesus read their hearts. This can't be done by accident.
