• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I sometimes have urges. I sometimes have the urge to do something violent, though I never given in to those urges. They scare me sometimes. I also have thoughts about doing those things though I never gave in to those urges so I have to stop those thoughts. I guess this is the compulsion, but is this Pure OCD where I have the obsessive thoughts but not the compulsions?

Yes, and you are obsessing about this obsession (that is how the ocd works at certain times).
Can you tell me what kind of violent acts you want to do, or do you just "feel" like doing something violent? Let it pass, let the thought and obsession pass... don't overthink about this "problem", because its not a "problem" at all... And Pure O is some of the times the thought and not the doing (obsession but no compulsion), so you got that part right.

yes that's pure O. and medication can't take it all away. The biggest victory is understanding that it is you who controls your actions, not the OCD. You can have disturbing intrusive thoughts about this stuff, but the fact that they scare you shows you that you can't actually go through with it. OCD doesn't cause people to actually act out those thoughts.

This.

Also, I'd recommend making an appointment with a therapist ASAP. I can tell you this sounds like OCD, I think it's OCD, but only a doctor can confirm it.

While none of us can diagnose you based on a few things you have told us on this thread, we can tell you what has worked for us and our friends & loved ones. Alot of the issues you described reminded me very much of my own bipolar issues and my step- son's ADHD/ Aggressive Behavioral Disorder. Both of our Mental Illnesses are similar to OCD. While medication, counseling & various programs can help us with our issues stressors and triggers, ultimately spending time in prayer and meditation with our Lord is the only way to help us when we have the urges to do something out of character like kick the cat or randomly bop some one.

Listen to Brother Sammy and tripletiger. I have had these same thoughts myself. I once had a thought of pushing someone down the stairs. I have also had thoughts of inflicting damage on myself and such. Spending time with the Lord in prayer and meditation upon His Word is the best way to handle this.

The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing." Zephaniah 3:17

Medication and therapy can dull (if even) the hurt. God can heal you.
