• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

It seems that everytime I try to read the bible or sing church songs I have this fearful thought come up in my mind that I am going to die. It seems that no matter what I try to do as far as reading the Bible or singng a Church song or even showing affection to my husband the thought always pops up. For example, if my husband is being very loving towards me I automatically start to think that he senses that I am going to die and that is why we are being so loving toward one another. Or if I read a certain verse in the Bible that talks about eternal life or about dying I automatically think that God is telling me that I am going to die. It is so hard to explain what I am going through but I am trying my best in hopes that someone else has experienced the same thing that I am going throuh and can help me to better understand this. I know that God does not send a spirit of fear, and I am born again, but I just cannot get this thought of dying out of my head!! Please someone just help me understand this!!I have suffered from anxiety every since I was 15 also.

again with intrusive thoughts. Just ignore it. You are worrying too much about it, and if you ignore it (don´t think th eopposite of an intrusive thought), it will go away.
I know exactly what you are talking about, and it can get annoying. You should learn what your mind is trying to do, and then learn to fix it.

kshpierce,

I do understand and can relate to the thoughts you are having about dying, my own were about getting certain illnesses. It is good that you have come here as it shows that you know it is a problem and is far from reality. The best cure for these kind of thoughts is to always remember it is just ocd processing the information and train yourself whenever these thoughts come up to be aware that it is just an ocd attack. I know it is hard as i am still in the process of doing so but it will really helps to know that you are so much bigger than ocd.

no this does not sound like obsessive compulsive disorder. Someone else mentioned what it sounds like 'intrusive thoughts'. Have a look on the web for 'mindfulness' and you may find some of the techniques useful.

besides the thought of death are you getting any other odd symptoms, hows your sleep pattern amount, diet and appetite, are you on any medications.

please provide more info...

I had a thoughts of dying as well.

for instance church service I thought "I am going to die after this song is over"

I used to read Gods commandment to honour our father and mother and the promise that our days would be long if we did so and i had the thought that if I ever disobeyed my parents I would die.

think about this thought. You have had this thoughts numerous times before and each time you did not die. is there any reason to believe the thought when it occurs the next time? what does the past evidence suggest about the thought.

Yea, too bad many people ignore tis kind of advise.

If you let these thoughts just pass, they will start to go away.
Your brain creates neurological pathways whenever you feel a certain way. If you keep worrying about these intrusive thoughts, you will keep inducing them, and therefore enforce this neurological pathway. You have to literally let these thoughts flow and relax when they come. Just let them be and ignore them. This way your brain will tell this neurological pathway to be destroyed, and these neurons will find new uses.

I have dealt with a lot of psychological disorders, and have come quite close to what seemed like schizophrenia, but I´ve cured it.

I know exactly how you feel.

I did it when I was 20 and I used to say to myself "Im not gona make it to 21" but hye I did.

I'm now 36 and the new one for me is "I'm not gona make it to see my daughter get married and have children".

I thought I was nuts but now that I have turned to Christianity I see it as "sin crouching at my door" to distract me from my new path in life.

You need to pray and trust in Christ, it's the only way to make it go away.

I have OCD of a different nature and that is 'cleanliness' but mine is quite severe. I sterlise everything, I wont let my daughter touch things in public, I wash my hands like 20 times a day and I have no skin left.

But I must admit, since I have been praying, the thoughts are not as bad and they are diminishing.

See and you think you got problems:)
