• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

First of all, I finally got an appointment with a therapist. Woo-hoo!

I am wondered in the meantime if what I'm experiencing is normal to OCD sufferers. I find that once I recieve reassurance for something that I think that I'm going to feel relief. At the time that worry seems very important and nothing else seems to matter. Then, in about five minutes my mind moves on to something else that I need reassurance for and it seems the most important.

Is this common in OCD?

I am not sure about that, but I think ocd is not very predictable. It seems to take on so many different forms and obsessions.

Thats wonderful you got an appointment with a therapist and I hope you get relief and and all the help you need.

I am very sorry you are having a bad day.

I pray Jesus give you strength and wisdom and lead you and guide you and meet your needs.

I hope you feel better

Yes, yes and yes. At least that is my experience too with the stuff. That's why it's more beneficial to treat the OCD rather than just the symptoms of it. Glad you have an appointment with a therapist!:prayer:

To me it sounds fairly typical of some of the OCD problems I have had & also several members of my family. However, my obsession tends to come back a number of times before I've been reassured enough. Yours seems to just move on a little faster than mine does.

Yep... this has been my experience too. When you have OCD you're brain operates a bit like a Venus fly trap. It will latch onto a whole bunch of things that happen to wander into your consciousnes because it really needs something to chew on in order to expend all that excess adrenaline.
Then of course the fact that you haven't been giving the faith obsessions top priority the OCD will start to make you feel guilty about that too.
ie. "Must be your faith really isn't all that important to you since you seem to be more concerned about your health than you are about your relationship with God." Nasty tactic! But knowing that it will do that prepares you to be able to say...."Yeah whatever... nice try... I'm not getting on that hamster wheel again!"
Praying for you.

Yes, I definitely experience the same. I feel like when one worry is dealt with, that'll be it. But it always seems to be replaced by something else. It's like my mind is addicted to worry or something...I always have to be ruminating on something. I wish I could just BE!

Yep! That's me too. It's weird. Sunday..I had this one thought in my head all day long, then by that night I had gotten past that thought and it went right into another one. It's maddening. Maybe we are all just genius's and we're not giving our minds enough to do,,so they are running amuck. LOL
