• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is this normal? Panic Attacks...Please Help!

What you said about his girlfriend lives next door to you....that is a huge trigger and there is definitely no closure, my friend. But most importantly....you said he threatened you? I think he is abusing of your good nature because you won't report this incident to the police or to his girlfriend!!!

You have two options:

A/ Report the crime to the police, even though the incident happened 4 years ago, they must still investigate. However this is your last resort....this will result in quite an earthquake.
Plus evidence will be very limited 4 years after

B/ Realise that what happened, happened to another person....you have become much stronger.....and much more mature since that episode.

My friend, I would suggest that you invest in your security though.

Whatever your decision, you must get closure....without closure.....you're going to be stuck in that moment.....move on friend.....move on....

Yes, his girlfriend lives next door with her family. Yes, he has recently threatened as well. He knows that I won't report it, we live in a small town, my father, uncle, and cousin are police officers in the town. We also have family members that work in the hospital. If I attempted to report it then everyone would have known, and that would of made things worse for me. It doesn't make me feel better that it's happened to others, because I wouldn't even want an enemy to experience what I have.

I hope that I do not sound rude, but moving on is a lot easier to say, but not as easy to do. I understand that your trying to help and I appreciate that, but I have realized the problem is that I keep trying to move on without dealing with the situation, and then I'm not moving on I am burying it deeper and I can't do that anymore

You must be proud of your family forming such a part of the local law enforcement community.

My dear friend, you don't sound rude at all....you are hurt and angry....and I can understand what you are saying.....let me tell you my story just so that maybe you can relate.....In Dec 2008 I lost my God son....my favourite nephew.....16 months old.....then I went through a long period of depression and even alcoholism.....then I met a lady.....and she abused me in every possible way (except for sexually and physically).....spent two years with her.....and battled alcoholism again.....

At times I would curl up in a ball on the floor banging my head against the wall, had to take off from work, my brain just shut down....I knew that I had to fight back.....

What I did was that I realised & acknowledged the fact that everything that happened is a part of me.....and no-one/nothing can take it away.....BUT.....I came out victorious.....I am still here.....I am still fighting......it did not kill me.....it just made me stronger.....

Nowadays I feel much better.....I do get low days.....but not as much....

I hope that you can understand what I am saying here...
And I really and truly hope that you can find peace and happiness...
