Is this icon alright to use?

Hi everyone.

I am not sure what icon I should use to represent my faith. At the moment I am on my way to conversion to Orthodoxy; although as you all know it's not an overnight then, and the priest has to make sure you accept all of the teachings, etc. That's where I am at the moment.

I've changed my icon to "Christian" for the time-being. I have thought about using an Orthodox icon, but being that I am not Orthodox at the moment, I figure I'd be giving everyone false beliefs about me and who I am. On the other hand, using the Catholic icon just didn't feel right anymore.

Does anyone have any problems with me using the "Christian" icon for the time-being, until I am converted? I feel less godly by doing so, but it sure saves a lot of confusion about who I am and what I believe.

Matthias, this may sound kind of odd, but I think which faith icon you use is between you and God. The one that seems right to you is the one that you should use. There are several of us here who are not yet Orthodox (indeed, I'm not even a catachumen yet) who use the Orthodox faith icon. I decided to use the Orthodox faith icon because I have, in my mind and my heart, begun my journey to Orthodoxy, even though I am not "officially" Orthodox, and won't be for some time yet.

Matthais, if you are going to become Orthodox, use the icon. If you are going to stay Catgolic, use the Catholic cross. If unsure about anything, use the Christian cross. I wont feel any disrespect on anything you choose.

Personally, I have no problem with your choice.

Officially (as a mod), as long as you adhere to the principals set forth in the Nicean/Constantinopolitan Creed you can use any Christian 'icon' that aligns with your faith.

I think Momzilla has hit the nail on the head. I really have no further input on the "faith icon" question, only wanted to say welcome and hope we all can be of some assistance to you in your journey to Orthodoxy. Most all of us here have been where you are at.

Just let the Holy Spirit be your guide; we're okay with whatever icon you want to use for now. Like Momzilla, I'm an inquirer on the way to becoming a catechumen (very soon). I chose to go ahead and use the Orthodox icon because I felt sure about the direction in which I was heading.

Rightio, Orthodox icon it is then! I just didn't want to offend anyone by using it when I am not "officially" Orthodox until the process finishes.
