Probably a few months ago or so I told some people I preferred tube amps. After playing with a solid state amp yesterday, I am starting to change my opinion. If I decide to go for a better solid state amp, would that be hypocritical or is it simply just changing my mind?

Hypocrisy is saying one thing and doing another. For example, if you were to tell people not to gossip and then turn around and say "can you believe Sara slept with that guy!?" that would be hypocritical.

i think it would be more of a lie than a hypocrisy, or perhaps you just changed your mind which would be ok. now you should go to each person you 'lied' to and explain and ask their forgiveness.

Another thing I wanted to bring up was, how does one determine what is hypocritical, a lie, and simply changing your mind?
For example, a while ago, I was against church dating, but now I am starting to retract my previous thought. Would that be considered changing my mind or something else?

hypocrisy involves deception. if you were being truthful when you held the opinion, it's not hypocritical. and i think we have established that changing your mind is ok.

If you change your mind and stay behind that change it's fine, it only becomes hypocritical if you contradict and go against what you say. Example- Saying you strongly dislike and disapprove of cussing, but just 5 minutes later, turn around and curse like a sailor cause you got ticked off about something. That's hypocritical, it wouldn't be if you said you approved though, and then cursed, then it'd just be a bad decision/habit =P.

Makes sense. I think the key is sticking to what you believe in and if so happens you change your mind, then you should stick to what you last believe in.
