If your son is also visually inclined, maybe pictures might help him. I have found that children's story books about Jesus with lots of pictures, as well as Catholic and Orthodox religious artwork / ikons have helped and continue to help me understand and reach out to theology. Maybe reading such books to your son might help him connect the dots and understand better who Jesus is.
