I'm going to start with a fundamental fact: Jesus' death was the sacrifice for all sin. Obviously it wasn't for sin committed up to that time, but sin for all time. So there is forgiveness for your sin -- all of it.
I think he meant the same thing as you said.I agree with everything you said except your second sentence. Jesus was a propitiation for all sins. Propitiation means all things that came before and all things that will come after. All sins were forgiven.
