No I don't believe He can change His nature. I guess that's the thing with God, He isn't susceptible to corruption and change as we are. If He were it would be possible for Him to cease to exist.

I believe there's so much more this ties into and actually explains a lot about God.

[bible]Malachi 3:6[/bible]
[bible]James 1:17[/bible]

When you think about it, there's probably lots of things God couldn't do. Could He cease to exist, become evil, create a higher more powerful creature?
Thanks, Malachi 3:6 is one of my favorite verses.
AS to the questions at the end--They're fantastic examples. Thanks for your input!

explain, sorry I am confused. if God created the rock then He can lift it...

I know, that means He can't make one that He can't lift. And it means He can't do anything. Because either He couldn't make the rock (that He can't lift) or He couldn't lift it.

yes but let be honest - what has that got to do with anything? thats just being picky. that argument only works because of double-negatives. ok then Freak4JC, is there anything REAL that He can't do? Rather than just trying to prove that He cant build a rock that He cant lift - because that doesnt affect my life does it!!

He can not sin. It goes against his holy nature.
He can not give people in hell another chance.
He can not allow Satan to live in heaven.
He can not save an atheist from hell (if the atheist asked Jesus into his heart he would no longer be an atheist. He would be a christian).

If God is truth, then if He was to lie, He would no longer be truth. It's not that He choses not to lie, it's that He can't, as it is against His very nature. Simular to saying we chose not to fly (as in Superman), or we chose not to leap over tall buildings. It's not a choice, we can't do it. God's nature does not allow Him to lie and still be God.

And a rock bigger than God would no longer be a rock.

Now what would happen if God was to come down and say:

"This statement is false."

:D

Yes He can, He could do all of these things - if He wanted to.

What about when Jesus healed on the Sabbath - that was a sin when He was around - to do anything on the sabbath was wrong! So yes He can sin if He wants to! But you will just claim that He changed the laws by doing this, so techincally it wasnt a sin.

Do you really think that God, the forgiving God, would not allow people a second chance? Even Satan - if Satan wanted to be forgiven? It wont happen - but if He did! God can save an atheist for the same reasons - He is forgiving. Are you saying that you have to know God to get into Heaven?

Yes, except we arent God! Yes if God was to lie then He would no longer be truth - but He has chosen not to and so he is truth. If you want to discuss nature - it is God's nature not to lie, so He wont. But that doesnt mean that He can't. Our nature is that we cannot jump over buildings - God's nature is that there is nothing that He can do

Hello SVt4him

Now what would happen if God was to come down and say: "This statement is false."
Actually something like that did happen once.

Job 38:2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

Job 38:3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

Yours in Christ

I think God could sin if he wanted. But he wont b/c he chooses not to.

He probably doesnt even THINK about sinning.

His thoughts might dwell on the defeat of sin, but probably not on Him actually sinning.

But His intricate ways are not known by me.

Good Day, Michael

If as you say God chooses not to sin. Is not it a choice made as result of thought?
If God does not think it he can not chose it.

Peace to u,

Bill

First of all lets define God: God the father, the creator of the universe.

Then Sin: Falling Short of God's glory.

So how can God not be God?

God Bless, metal.
Yes but metal - I work at the Hilton, but if I do something really bad I will no longer work there. There is nothing that means you cannot change! I believe that if God WANTED to sin then He could - only he doesnt WANT to so He doesnt.

Sin is an offense against God - God cannot offend Himself...

God also cannot contradict Himself... thus He cannot be omnipotent, and not be able to lift a rock...

Do not confuse Omnipotence with the ability to contradict... contradiction is meaningless.
Right cannot be left, etc...

Everyone is putting earthly restraints on God in this argument.

God is outside of time, outside of this world. Laws that apply here, do not apply to him up there. If God was to become Proud, he could not, because he cannot exalt himself above himself... since there is noone higher than him. He cannot break the sabbath, because he is outside of time. etc etc.

Thats something to think about.

God Bless, metal.
