  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is there a connection between Ezekiel 9:4 and Revelation 7:3?

well the title askes it all, but for the sake of all i will post the two verses in question, thus making it easier for the reader.
Ezekiel 9:4 - And GOD said to him, "Go throughout teh city of Jerusalem and put a mark on the foreheads of those who grieve and lament over all the detestable things that are done in the temple.
Revelation7:3- Do not hurt the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of the our God.
Both Passages are in the context of the end of times, as far as i can tell, and i would love to see many comments seeing as i have to complete a 4 page paper on this same topic.

GOD Bless!!!

Ezekiel 9:4 And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.

Revelation 7:3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

Genesis 4:13 And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear. 14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me. 15 And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

Revelation 13:16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Revelation 14:9 And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, 10 The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: 11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Revelation 15:2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.

Revelation 16:2 And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.

Revelation 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Choose your mark well.

666 is the mark of the beast / false messiah / abominable branch / worthless shepherd whose number points to the builder of the first Jewish temple.

1 Kings 8 is a record of what happened. but the proper interpretation of:

2 Samuel 7:12 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.

is:

Zechariah 6:12 And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: 13 Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.

Matthew 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?

1 Peter 2:4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. 6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded. 7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner, 8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed. 9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

So also the beast will build the third temple as a sign to the Jews he is the genuine messiah.

John 5:43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if {{when}} another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

The number 666 is only 4 time in the Bible (Revelation 13:18, 1 Kings 10:14, 2 Chrionicles 9:13, and Ezra 2:13). Two of the four point to Solomon. The fourth points to a man's clan whose name is "risen lord":

Revelation 13:3 And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

The number is atracking system to hunt down the one people who refuse to accept it (Christians) // remember no one can buy nor sell food or property or clothes... and Christians will be the only ones not fooled by the signs of the false messiah (Matthew 24:24).

The verse practically divulges the Solomon connection:

Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

The counting? It is exactly 666 years to the day that the two temples were destroyed on the Hebrew calendar.

This is of course if you are willing to abide by the interpretive rules of the Bible:

Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.

Revelation 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: 19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

Proverbs 30:5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. 6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

There could be an allusion to Ezekiel here, but I don't know that you can have much to stand on. The mark in Revelation is simply the seal given to the faithful, ensuring them of life after death. (In the NT, this seal is the holy Spirit). The connection may be that in Ezekiel's vision, the mark is also the guarantee that the faithful will not be subject to (physical) death.

In the Ancient Near East, the people would always put a "mark" on the coffin (ossuary) of a dead person. The mark was the last letter of their alphabet (like "z" in our case). As the Hebrew alphabet changed over time, so did the last letter of their alphabet. At first, the last letter looked like an "x" and then later a "t" or a "+" sign. When they adopted the square shaped letters, the last letter of the alphabet became "taw" which it is still to this day. [look up the Hebrew alphabet online and you will see the symbol]

That letter 'taw' (or 'tav') was also the word for "mark" in Ezekiel's time. So ironically, he is talking about putting the mark of death (symbolically) on the people who are not going die (physically). The same is true in Revelation. The Christians will have the mark of death put on them (physically--they will die in persecution), yet they are not going to die (spiritually).

By the way, I don't think either one needs to be interpreted eschatologically. Ezekiel is talking about the people in his day that won't suffer death from Babylon, and John is talking about those who will die in the first century from being persecuted because of their faith in Christ.

That is pretty much the only connection I can see...I hope this helps. :)
