Yeah, I definitely think it's a sin. I'd try and find some accountability or someone to confide in and hold you straight. And keep in the Word daily, usually when these things flare up for me it's because I haven't been talking to God or staying in His word enough. And don't give yourself the opportunity to be alone; try to stay busy and out of the house. You're definitely not the only one, brother. Satan loves to shove this in guys' faces; but hold steadfast.

I can see the argument against porn, but not against mastubation in and of itself...is an erotic dream sinful? sexual needs are natural and helping yourself not to just walk around burning with lust all the time is no sin...guys especially need some release from these urges when they are alone

Just wanted to throw this in there as well. Sorry if it's already been posted. But with the porn, it'll change your attitude towards sex. So whereas you should be having sex to enjoy you and your partner and bond emotionally you have this negative dim view of sex. All that porn makes you view women as objects and sex wouldn't be about "making love" but rather being this hardcore "stud" who "pounds" the woman and try to be this manly guy. It's very rough and though some women may like it, not all women do. So just wanted to point that out. I read today in Acts 14:22 - "..we must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God" that right there goes to show you it wont be easy but it's possible.

For encouragement I'm in the recovery process myself. By His grace I'm now at day 20 (all time high) without masturbating but I have watched a bit of porn here and there but I take it into prayer so I may not fall next time. I'd be more than happy to be an accountability partner for you. Good luck and God bless.

No wet dreams aren't sinful since we don't control our dreams. But if you are thinking about sex and fantasizing with the hope that they'll carry into your dreams, you might want to re-think things through. God gives wet dreams and when He feels you need it he'll send it. No need to force the issue.

"guys especially need some release from these urges when they are alone"
No, no no, brother. when we are alone and there's no pastor, or mom, or dad or youth leader and you're alone how much do you practice what you hear preached and what you yourself preach? Has anyone ever died from not masturbating when they were aroused? C'mon don't be deceived. Also haven't you heard of women being sex addicts? Girls may also have similar sex troubles as guys don't be too quick to count them out.

"sexual needs are natural and helping yourself not to just walk around burning with lust all the time is no sin"
Yes of course sexual needs are natural. Your maker gave you hormones and your "part(s)" for a reason. But remember there's a right place and time for everything. I want you to think about something. Your language makes it sound as if when I'm aroused and I "pull a quickie" that's the end of the story and I'm free and that's it. But, brother, aren't there people who touch more than once a day? Can one really "help themselves" to not walk around burning with lust? Because when you do it, it temporary satisfies you and then you're back and you want more so I don't think you can "help yourself". I speak from experience when I say if I walk around and I look at a woman the wrong way and I go home and touch to my filthy thoughts, when I go back out again I'm not "helped" and I'm still walking around with the burning desire for more. So masturbation's not the solution to your burning desires.

The only time when masturbation would be fine I guess would be if you're married and you touch to thoughts of your wife. But one would hope and pray that wont take masturbation into their marriage :)

Lastly masturbation in of itself isn't sinful but I'd like to see one touch to their refrigerator 'cause their fridge is just so sexy :D.

Didn't I already answer that?

Even the branches that are OK with masturbation (and it's not encouraged, just OK) like the ELCA are against porn.

This church notes with grave concern the public commodification44 of the human body as an economic asset. The sexual body is never to be used as an object for commercial purposes, and this church will speak against the public idolatry of pleasure, freedom, and wealth that undergirds such practices.

Especially deplorable are the billion-dollar global sex market and the economic systems that thrive on it, both in the United States and abroad.45 The people trapped in this system are damaged and often destroyed by degradation, abuse, and, sometimes, torture. Companies that profit from this enterprise need to be identified and strongly denounced. This church supports building international agreements and national laws to prevent these practices.

The possibility of profit is not a sufficient moral basis to use human sexuality for purposes that harm individuals or undermine social trust.46 The ELCA opposes the sale and purchase of pornography. It also objects to commercial and technological efforts to sell sex, including mass media and commercial marketing, since these negatively impact individuals and society in significant ways.
