Assuming that man evolved from the same line as apes, this would suggest that mans earliest ancestor was actually less intelligent than an ape. The ape evolved and became more intelligent, and we evolved from that same line, therefore our earliest ancestor was actually less intelligent than an ape.

What's so off-putting about accepting that we're more intelligent than our ancestors were? In general, people today are more intelligent than they were 1000 years ago, aren't they? God gave us the capacity to learn and become more intelligent, both individually and as a species.

WE are not more intelligent than our ancestors were. Technological advancement is most likely due to freedom, not evolution. Our ancestors were not as dumb as we assume. THey didn't have the freedom or financial recourses that we have in todays modern world. It also took certain advancements to fuel this technology revolution that we are experiencing
However, none of this means we are smarter. Even our ancestors, who worshiped dumb idols, never believed that we evolved from apes. WE are just as foolish as they were, and they were just as intelligent as we are.

The bible says that God makes the wisdom of this world foolishness, and I said that's most likely why he allows man to believe that he evolved from apes. He doesn't make the worlds wisdom foolish through debate though, because the bible also teaches that we should not argue with a fool, or we will be just like them.
