The rapture cannot be the last day because we see in the last parts of the Book of the Revelation to John that WE return WITH Christ as He returns to finish the Battle of Armageddon.

True born again believers who were lifted out in the rapture.
Many do not believe in a rapture at all but scripture is pretty clear if you know it and actually understand it. This guy I will link you to is president of the Grace School Of The Bible, I would just ask you to listen to the full 26 minutes and it might change everything for you once you hear it. The gathering at the end of 1 Thessalonians chapter 4 occurs on the day of the Lord when He comes as a thief, revealed at the beginning of chapter 5.
The word "But" in the first verse of chapter 5 connects the two chapters.
The words "we" and "sleep" in 1 Thessalonians 5:10 also shows the connection between the two chapters.
Based on 2 Peter 3:10 and Revelation 16:15-16, it is clearly a Second Coming event.
During most of the history of the Church it was understood that the gathering occurred at the beginning of Christ's Second Coming.
Because we have the return of Christ in Revelation chapter 16 and also in chapter 19, we know the Book of Revelation is not in chronological order.

There are people who walk the walk but their hearts are not changed. To be a born again believer, your heart is changed ( spiritual heart). You are reborn of the Holy Spirit. This is what Jesus was speaking about in His account in John 3:1-21, stating that "You Must Be Born Again". He told the pharisee that he was an educated man yet did not grasp this ? Jesus was not big on religious high ground , in fact He was and is a promoter that you lose that and give yourself to Him. Jesus called those who live that other way hypocrites, even snakes..
If there is a rapture you can be pretty sure they won't be present in it. But they have made themselves to look the part.
