Yeah the first one is my fav. It's a good sci-fi type of thing...borrows some religious names and terms etc. It's a good analogy for the whole "this world isn't the real world" ideology.

Yes, there is a "machine" and Satan has trap devices to prevent people from thinking about "is there a god". He runs all of the kingdoms of the world for now.

No, because the premise is that humans can work their way to salvation (our work is like filthy rags in front of god).

Like all good science fiction it ebbs and flows in and out of philosophy and science. It's a fun film, a lot of interesting philosophical interaction, you can have a lot of fun with it intellectually as long as you don't take it too seriously.

What I remember of them is confusion. Maybe they were over my head. Not movies I would recommend.
