The flights from New Zealand to Antarctica were not trans-Antarctic flights. They flew from Auckland within 10 degrees longitude of due south to the airspace near McMurdo Sound (about latitude 77.5. degrees south), returning north to Auckland. Those flight do not disprove the fact that trans-Antarctic flights are impossible due to the adjoined firmament at or near the Southern Circumference (i.e., at or near latitude 90 degrees south). You need to investigate The Antarctic Treaty of 1 December 1959 to see the extent to which access Antarctica is absolutely controlled. In the 1970s Air New Zealand operated luxury sightseeing flights over Antarctica in the B747-200, but these were discontinued after the pilots of one became disoriented and flew into a mountain.
