Incidentally... saying "GD" is not taking "His name" in vain. "

I will never believe that or teach that.

If we lead one to stumble, (that's called out as a special sin in the Bible).

I know -- here we go -- what do you mean Special Sin ???????

Of course. I did not say "unforgivable."

What is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit? I was listening to Kim Walker Smith's song and it turned off on the way to school and I was angry because I didn't want to be talked to, so I said, "the Fing song"-not full world-abbreviation.

Then today I started thinking, "I wouldn't have crossed the line with God if i listened to a different Christian song".

That is certainly NOT blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

In context of our Lord's warning, it would be attributing God's miracles to be the work of the devil.

Ask forgiveness if and when you do...?

You'll eventually stop if you keep doing that...

God Bless!

My question was half facetious and he knew that. However, that doesn't translate well here, I'm afraid.

Still, his answer was enlightening (somewhat).

What actually cleaned my language up was a woman I've married to for 18 years who made me behave ;)

I had thoughts, "Why couldnt I have listened to a different song"? Is that insulting the Holy Spirit? When walking I even thought, "that (obscene word insult) shouldn't have written that song"-and I have OCD-so it may have been a fake thought-but I felt stressed out and it may have been genuine. I would never say that out loud.

This was the song I was listening to.

You're welcome to believe whatever you want. :) I am not advocating saying GD... in fact, I think that IS A SIN!!! What it isn't, is taking His name in vain... at least in relation to the idea that "God" is in ANY WAY shape or form "His name."

I wasn't going to go here but to be clear... if you look up that commandment you will find that the word we translate as "take" is "nasah" which is the word for "hold up" or "elevate" or "exalt." Since "shem" (name) deals with character and authority... then the commandment is literally saying, "do not exalt or elevate His authority and character in a manner in which it appears worthless (vain) to the world around you."

From abundance of the heart speaks the mouth. If a person is swearing, it's the contents of their heart. Unhappiness, anger, disappointment, fear. Not fruits of the Spirit, but of the devil.

People, including myself, swear out of joy, happiness and bliss. People swear for all kinds of reasons.

Is it blasphemous to wish I listened to a different song because i would be "safe"?

I'm saying only God knows the details of the complete why or how we came to still sin occassionally, and sometimes even after being born again, but that's where God really comes in...

For only he knows, we often may not even know ourselves, let alone other people being able to fully know other people that way...? Only he knows...

God Bless!

Not so, if someone murdered me, even if they were once a Christian, that is a sin and he is no longer saved, but this is getting off topic. We would need to talk about the question of "once saved always saved" but that is for another forum.

Sam... blasphemy is SPEAKING EVIL AGAINST... in this case, the Holy Spirit. It has nothing to do with wishing you changed the radio station. :)

The Quran and the Holy Trinity: Islam’s Mistaken Views of Basic Christian Doctrines

Thus, the Quran erroneously assumes that the implication of Christian beliefs is that God acquired a son through procreation (God forbid such horrendous blasphemy!).

Swearing means to attest in some way that you are telling the truth, as in swearing in court. Of course falsely swearing would be sinful. However, in recent decades it has come to mean the use of foul language which while distasteful I don't think would be sinful.

I agree... but I also think the intent behind any word is what really matters. A friend recently told me his wife, a kindergarten teacher... had a little girl who, when pointing to the chalk board, uses her middle finger. The other kids laugh or are horrified... she has no clue. Is it wrong? Of course not... but if I used it toward you with the other intent... perhaps it is. It certainly wouldn't reflect the Lord's character, and anything short of that is falling short.

All words have more than one meaning. In the sense of "speaking blasphemy against the Holy Spirit" we are talking about speaking evil against the Holy Spirit. Whatever the Quran says it says... I have no interest in reading it. :)

I agree, and I have read the Quran, Hadith, and understand Sharia Law, and I have never seen such an evil and corrupt thing in my life. When I got to what Islam says about the treatment of women it made me sick.

Perhaps indeed ....

Thanks for giving me a good chuckle. I know of a number of people who address one another in this manner in a genuine spirit of camaraderie, though I must admit it's been quite some time since I did.

If I ever do to anyone here on this Forum, it will be only with the utmost respect and good hearted cheer.
